A man named Saidi is currently in police custody for allegedly killing his father, Bale.
The incident took place in Ilusi, Osun State, where Saidi had accompanied his father to their farm.
Bale was found decapitated on his farm, just hours before he was scheduled to harvest his crops.
The gruesome discovery was made on Friday, though Bale went missing hours earlier.
A resident, Sakariyau, said: “Bale went missing last Thursday and after an intense search, his corpse was found on his farm the following day, covered with leaves, with his head cut off.”
Saidi initially denied killing his father but admitted to the crime after being tortured by angry youths.
The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the arrest, saying: “The suspect was arrested on suspicion of killing the father. Investigation is ongoing.”
