On January 10, 2022, the worldwide popular song ‘Love Nwantiti’ by Nigerian musician CKay was certified Gold in the United States. This happened after the album was declared Gold in the United Kingdom and France.
In 2020, the record surpassed chart streams all over the world, topping key charts. This made history, establishing CKay as Africa’s most popular musician on Spotify. In the United States, such prestigious movements as obtaining the Gold Plaque occur when an album sells the equivalent of 500,000 copies through streaming and raw CD sales.
The hit tune “Love Nwantiti” was first published by Chocolate City in 2019, but a year later, a remix featuring Joeboy and Kwami Eugene was released, and it quickly became a hit.
The original version of the hit song ‘Love Nwantiti,’ not the remix, made ripples in the United States, earning him the Gold Plaque.
“When I came here, I had a master plan,” he remarked of his road to the limelight when he arrived in Lagos in 2014. I had the ability to both produce and write. He continues, “At one point, that was all I had to offer.” He had to develop and write for a long before publishing his own tracks, which brought him to Chocolate City and then Warner Music in 2020.
