The retired military chief, Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, was at the Abuja office of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) on Tuesday.
He was invited by the agency to shed more light on his interview aired on Channels Television in which he allegedly claimed that sponsors of insurgents and bandits were known to the Federal Government.
Commodore Olawunmi was accompanied by his lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN).
It was uncertain if the ex-Naval officer was detained or allowed to go as at the time of filing this report.
The Director Defence Information Maj.-Gen. Benjamin Sawyerr could not be reached on phone. There was also no response to the WhatsApp message sent to his phone.
In the television interview, Commodore Olawunmi described as an “aberration” the gunmen attack on Nigeria’s foremost military university, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where two military officers were killed and another kidnapped by the attackers.
He was quoted as saying: “It is an aberration; you don’t attack the Nigerian Defence Academy and get away with it. The NDA, like other military environments in the country, carelessly opens its doors to everyone on Friday for Jumat prayer, thereby giving terrorists the opportunity to profile the institution.”
