The Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has won the governorship election in the state.

The election was conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which also commenced the announcement of the result on local government basis on Sunday morning.

Out of the results from 15 local government areas announced by INEC as at press time, Obiano, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, had won 14.

As earlier reported, a governor is elected based on popular majority votes cast and winning 25 per cent of votes in two-third of the local government areas of the state.

Anambra State has 21 local government areas, meaning Obiano needs only 14 LGAs to emerge victorious.

The Peoples Democratic Party won just one of the local government areas so far declared.
