BREAKING: Adijat Olarinoye Wins Nigeria’s First Gold Medal At Commonwealth Games

Female weightlifter, Adijat Olarinoye has added to Nigerian’s bragging right as she wins Nigeria’s first medal (a gold) at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Competing in the 55kg category, Olarinoye lifted a total of 203kg to win the gold medal ahead of her Indian counterpart, Bindayareni who lifted 202kg to win the Silver medal. The lifter from England, Fraer Morrow was third, lifting a total of 198kg to win the Bronze medal.

Olarinoye lifted a new Games record of 92kg in the snatch and another 111kg in the clean and jerk to lift a total of 203kg to win the gold medal.
She thus won the country’s first medal, a gold, at the Games.
