Benue Govt To Hold Another Mass Burial After Herdsmen Killing

Photo credit: Oraye St. Franklyn The government of Benue state has begun preparation for another mass burial billed to hold next week Friday, March 16, in the state. Twenty-four people were on Monday killed by suspected herdsmen in Omusu village, Okpokwu area of the state. Majority of the victims are women.

And Governor Samuel Ortom, who visited the village on Tuesday, described the attack as unfortunate. He called for the arrest and prosecution of the herdsmen allegedly responsible for the attack. The governor also asked the community not to embark on reprisal attacks. He reiterated his call for the arrest of the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore whom he alleged were sponsoring the suspected herdsmen militia.

The governor also visited Saint Mary’s Hospital Okpoga, where the injured persons were treated and proceeded to the General Hospital in the town where remains of the dead victims were deposited. The state government had in January held mass burial for victims of a New Year’s Day attack.
