About 10 Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed Eagle Square, Abuja, the venue of the presidential primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Report has it that the EFCC took strategic positions as if they are laying ambush for a suspect.
The anti-graft agency made the same appearance at the presidential convention of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), two weeks ago.
It was gathered that the presence of the EFCC operatives is to monitor presidential aspirants who may indulge in the financial inducement of delegates and not intimidate anyone.
There have been concerns that politicians, especially presidential aspirants have been trying to financially induce delegates at the presidential convention of the various parties.
Meanwhile, Abdullahi Adamu, APC national chairman, Iyiola Omisore, the party’s national secretary, and some governors of the party, including Mohammed Abubakar-Badaru of Jigawa State, Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu of Kebbi state and Hope Uzodinma of Imo state as well as Lai Mohammed have arrived the venue of the convention.
Also, two presidential aspirants, Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, and Tunde Bakare stormed the venue amidst cheers from delegates and supporters.
The party’s 2, 340 ad hoc delegates who will be electing the party’s presidential candidate had earlier arrived at the convention venue in high capacity buses after being accredited at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
There was pandemonium when operatives of the Nigeria Police Force opened teargas on accredited journalists, observers, and party supporters who tried to gain access to Eagle Square.
It took the intervention of Felix Morka, APC national publicity secretary who promptly responded to a distress call by a mishandled journalist before access was given to media representatives were allowed into the venue.
