Embattled actor, Olanrewaju James, aka Baba Ijesha, on Friday, March 4, 2022, told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that comedienne, Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess, is his former lover.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the actor testified as to the second defense witness at his trial for the alleged defilement of a 14-year-old foster daughter of Princess.

Led in evidence by the defense counsel, Dada Awosika, SAN, Baba Ijesha described the nature of the relationship he allegedly had with Princess.

He said, “We were dating, my lord. She always slept in my room. We slept together. We both touched and kissed ourselves.”

Earlier, the defendant told the court how he allegedly met the comedienne. According to him, he received a phone call from Princess while he was an on-air personality on Radio Lagos and LTV 8. He added, “She said she was my number one fan and asked me to promote her on my program. That was how we started.”

The defendant added that in the course of the relationship, he met Princess’ mother and she advised him to take care of her daughter and that though her daughter was stubborn, he could handle her.

Narrating what transpired in 2014, the day he allegedly sexually molested Princess’s foster daughter with a car key, he stated that the comedienne informed him that she was battling ill-health and needed some fruits. According to him, he then took some fruits to her home.

“Immediately I opened the door to her house and saw her half-naked. I then told her the fruits were inside the car.

“A few minutes after, the young girl (Princess’s foster daughter) came to pick the fruits from the car.”

Under cross-examination by the Lagos State Director of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions, Dr. Jide Martins, the defendant denied defiling the minor.

He, however, admitted knowing the child since she was seven years old.

“Princess is not my benefactor. She is the one who benefitted from me,” he said.

Baba Ijesha, who at a point broke down in tears during the cross-examination, said the evidence he gave in court in his defense was not an afterthought.

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo adjourned the case until March 11 for the continuation of defense.

This follows the singer’s appearance in court on Monday on the charges of defamation of character levelled against him by veteran Fuji musician, Okunola Saheed, aka Saheed Osupa.

The ‘zazoo-zeh’ crooner, however, received bail of N1 million and other stringent bail conditions, including providing two sureties in like sum.

According to the court’s directive, one of the sureties must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, while the other must be a property owner within a Government Reserved Area in Ilorin, supported by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

Report says the case was documented under First Information Report (FIR) 117(1) CPC, and filed by the State Intelligence Department of the police following a petition dated March 21, 2025, by Osupa.

The petition said Portable made a live broadcast on Instagram, where he allegedly defamed Osupa, claiming the complainant was envious of his success and attempting to destroy his reputation.

In the video, Portable was quoted as saying, “This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa carry tortoise for stomach. When Apple Music and Spotify want to drop money for me, na him remove my song from the platform, make I no see money (sic).”

Osupa maintained that Portable’s remarks were not only defamatory and damaging but also intended to incite public hatred and disturb the peace.

It was submitted to the Kwara State Police Command, and its men arrested the street-pop singer who confessed to the allegations while being interrogated.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the petition accused Portable of several serious offences, including criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, as well as the use of abusive and offensive language.

“In view of the weight of these allegations and the supporting evidence presented, the command secured a valid arrest warrant from a Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.

“Acting on this warrant, operatives from the command proceeded to Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, 13th April 2025, where the suspect was apprehended at about 19:25hrs. He was immediately brought to Ilorin for further investigations.

“Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both parties,” the statement read.

The arrest followed a petition filed by Osupa, accusing Portable of using abusive and insulting language that could incite violence and damage his reputation.

In a statement released on Sunday, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the state police spokesperson, disclosed that the singer was taken to Ilorin for further investigation.

It added that Portable’s statement was recorded in the presence of legal representatives from both parties, and he is currently in custody awaiting court proceedings.

The rift between the two artistes began last month when Portable’s song was removed from Apple Music and Spotify due to copyright infringement.

Portable had used a line synonymous with Osupa’s style, leading to Osupa’s team filing a complaint.

However, Portable apologised to Osupa, blaming his temper for the outburst.
