Alex Otti Reacts To His Sacking As Abia Governor-Elect, Says “No Cause For Alarm, My Inauguration Ongoing As Planned”

Published

on

Abia State Governor-elect, Dr. Alex Otti, has called on Abians to remain calm and not be alarmed by the recent ruling of a Federal High Court in Kano, dismissing his candidacy.

Otti reassured the public that the purported judgment should not be a cause for concern, as it is an unjust decision that cannot undermine the will of the people.

Speaking in Abia, Otti confirmed that preparations for his scheduled inauguration on May 29 are proceeding as planned.

He declared that the enemies of democracy cannot thwart the wishes of the Abia populace.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has dismissed the court ruling as a futile exercise, emphasizing that it holds no significance.

Recall in the case with suit number FHC/KN/CS/107/2023, filed by Mr. Ibrahim Haruna Ibrahim against the Labour Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Federal High Court in Kano nullified the candidature of Dr. Alex Otti and all Labour Party candidates in Abia and Kano states.

The court based its decision on the argument that their emergence did not comply with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.

A copy of the judgment was made available to journalists on Friday, with the court ruling that the Labour Party’s failure to submit its membership register to INEC within the required 30-day period before the primaries rendered the entire process invalid.

[VIDEO] ‘Let Me Die If I Say Anything Here’ — VDM Refuses To Address Reps Members, Cites Bobrisky, EFCC’s Chairman Absence

Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has refused to comment further on the allegations made by Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky. Bobrisky had claimed that officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Services demanded N15 million from him to serve his prison term in a VIP section of the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos.

When invited to brief the Investigating Committee, VeryDarkMan expressed his dissatisfaction with Bobrisky’s absence, saying:

“I don’t know why I will be here and the person who made these allegations is not here. Bobrisky said in the voice note that there is a godfather. Maybe the godfather told him not to come. He has disrespected this committee by not coming here.”

He further stated, “You are already threatening me with arrest. If you detain me, I will stay in the cell. If Bobrisky is not here, I will not say anything. If I say anything, let me die.”

The committee members tried to persuade VeryDarkMan to speak on the allegations, assuring him that Bobrisky would also face the panel. This development comes amid an ongoing investigation into the bribery allegations, which has led to the suspension of four senior officers from the Nigerian Correctional Service.
