Aisha Buhari, APC Governors Reportedly Move Against Oshiomhole

Published

on

Aisha Buhari, the wife of the President, has purportedly stopped Adams Oshiomhole, All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, from accessing the President’s residence in the Aso Villa, Abuja.

Aisha was said to have insisted that Oshiomhole should rather hold meetings with her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his office.

The development may not be unconnected with her position that the APC has been hijacked.

Report says Aisha’s action was in reaction to recent developments in the party.

“She too has lost out in the scheme of things. She also insists Oshiomhole has an overbearing attitude.

“Things were a bit better under Oyegun (former APC chairman), because he was more diplomatic in his approach”.

Suleiman Haruna, her spokesman, did not pick up phone calls.

Earlier in the month, Aisha called out the ruling party after her brother, Dr. Mahmood Halilu Ahmed, lost the Adamawa governorship ticket of APC to Governor Bindow.

In a post on her social media page, Aisha condemned what she called impunity in the APC.

She said: “It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on Election Day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices.

“Many others contested and yet had their result delayed. Fully knowing that AUTOMATIC tickets have been given to other people.

“All Progressives Congress being a party whose cardinal principle is change and headed by a comrade/activist whose main concern is for the common man, yet, such impunity could take place under its watch.”

Before the primary, Ahmed wrote a petition to the APC national chairman demanding reconstitution of Adamawa Gubernatorial Election Committee.

Meanwhile, 15 of 21 governors of the party are reportedly collecting signatures to convene a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting that would unseat the national chairman.

According to reports, the governors would be storming Abuja on Tuesday to finalise the plan.

Some of them lost out at the party’s primaries and have accused Oshiomhole of working against them.

In an apparent reaction, Oshiomhole had accused some top party members of planning to remove him.

Nigeria Politics Is About Betrayal – I Witnessed It In 2015 — Goodluck Jonathan

Published

on

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that betrayal is a common feature of Nigerian politics, recalling his experience during the 2015 general elections.

Jonathan spoke on Thursday at the 70th birthday celebration of Mike Oghiadomhe, former Edo deputy governor, in Benin, the state capital.

“Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals. I witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election,” Jonathan said.

He noted that many politicians lack consistency, adding that few can be trusted.

“You will find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and say the same thing in the afternoon and in the evening,” he said.

“They will tell you something this minute, and in the next hour, they will say another. But, I am quite pleased to associate with Oghiadomhe.”

The former president praised Oghiadomhe as a dependable ally, describing him as someone who would “take a bullet” on his behalf.

“For me, he is somebody you can take his words to the bank. Most politicians, you cannot take their words to the bank,” Jonathan added.

Oghiadomhe, who served as Edo deputy governor between 1999 and 2007, was Jonathan’s chief of staff from 2010 to 2014.

Adebayo Shittu, current Minister of Communications, has positioned himself as the most experienced candidate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) contest for the Oyo State governorship.

In a statement to journalists in Ibadan, Shittu cited his extensive political track record—spanning roles as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly in 1979, a two-time State Commissioner, and two previous governorship bids—as qualifications that set him apart from other aspirants. “I was a member of the State House of Assembly in 1979 and two-time Commissioner in the State. I have also contested the governorship seat in the state twice before I became a minister. These are experiences you cannot buy,” he insisted .

Shittu emphasized the importance of experience in governance and governance readiness, underscoring the complexity of Oyo State’s political landscape. He added, “Oyo is advanced and sophisticated to be handled by inexperienced administrators” .

Drawing on his historical ties to Nigeria’s political heritage, Shittu noted that he gleaned invaluable insights from Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a foundational figure of Nigeria’s politics. He argued that this lineage of political mentorship enhances his capacity to govern effectively.
