Buhari’s Administration Has Fulfilled The 2015 “Change” Mantra by Making Things Better For Nigerians — Fashola

Babatunde Fashola, outgoing minister of works and housing, says feedback received from Nigerians shows that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari improved the country.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Friday night, Fashola said the Buhari administration fulfilled the 2015 mantra of change.

On May 29, Buhari is expected to leave office after eight years as Nigeria’s president.

Giving an assessment of the Buhari administration, Fashola said the road infrastructure projects executed by the outgoing government have reduced the hours Nigerians spent traveling on roads.

“I think it is a very difficult place to self-assess, but I think that from the feedback that we get from those we serve, clearly, the feedback is encouraging and it indicates that things have moved in a better direction from where we picked it up and that means that we have moved the needle,” he said.

“We made things better than they were and we lived our mantra of change in that sense.

“Travel time, for example, on some of the major roads when we did a survey about a year and a half ago has generally on average reduced by about 55 percent.

“Subject to the inflation and cost of living increases being experienced, we also saw that cost of travel had dropped by about 55 percent around the same period when we did the survey and that is good news for the economy.”

On Buhari’s anti-corruption drive, Fashola said most of the looted funds recovered by the outgoing administration were devoted to infrastructure projects, adding that the anti-corruption war is not all about arresting and jailing suspects.

“I tell people that this anti-corruption crusade is not all about arresting and jailing people. It is not also about the forfeiture of funds alone. It is also what you choose to do with it (referring to looted funds),” he added.

Asked what he will do if he is retained by the incoming administration of Bola Tinubu, Fashola said it is “extremely hypothetical” that he will be among the next set of ministers, adding that it is time to give young people a chance.

“I think that is extremely hypothetical and when you look at it, I think you should go to our conference room and it will tell you the reason why I should not be here anymore,” he added.

“Just go and look at all of those who served from Shagari to Femi Okunnu, Obasanjo to Inuwa Wada, and Tafawa Balewa, they were in their 30s when they took this job.

“If we say really and truly that this is the time for young people and you don’t move the production line, how do you inject new capacity?

[VIDEO] ‘Let Me Die If I Say Anything Here’ — VDM Refuses To Address Reps Members, Cites Bobrisky, EFCC’s Chairman Absence

Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has refused to comment further on the allegations made by Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky. Bobrisky had claimed that officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Nigerian Correctional Services demanded N15 million from him to serve his prison term in a VIP section of the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos.

When invited to brief the Investigating Committee, VeryDarkMan expressed his dissatisfaction with Bobrisky’s absence, saying:

“I don’t know why I will be here and the person who made these allegations is not here. Bobrisky said in the voice note that there is a godfather. Maybe the godfather told him not to come. He has disrespected this committee by not coming here.”

He further stated, “You are already threatening me with arrest. If you detain me, I will stay in the cell. If Bobrisky is not here, I will not say anything. If I say anything, let me die.”

The committee members tried to persuade VeryDarkMan to speak on the allegations, assuring him that Bobrisky would also face the panel. This development comes amid an ongoing investigation into the bribery allegations, which has led to the suspension of four senior officers from the Nigerian Correctional Service.

Blogger Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, appeared before a House of Representatives panel on Monday to address bribery allegations involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

The Committees on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions commenced investigations into claims made by the blogger in a viral video. VeryDarkMan alleged that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, paid ₦15 million to have money laundering charges dropped by the EFCC after his naira-spraying incident in April, which led to a six-month imprisonment sentence. The blogger also claimed Bobrisky paid additional amounts to secure a preferential spot in prison.

Bobrisky has denied these allegations, and both the EFCC and NCoS have initiated investigations into the claims.

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the council chambers of the Aso Rock villa on Monday following her confirmation by the senate last week.

Kekere-Ekun, Nigeria’s 23rd CJN and the second female to hold the position, had been serving in an acting capacity since the retirement of Olukayode Ariwoola in August.

During her senate confirmation hearing, Kekere-Ekun discussed her plans for judicial reforms, including the digitization of the courts to improve case tracking and ensure judges handle cases expeditiously.

She also emphasized the use of virtual hearings, particularly in criminal matters, to reduce delays and help with prison decongestion.
