The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwalu Muhammad, for allegedly removing his 7-year-old sister’s eyes in a suspected money ritual.

The incident occurred in Wailo town, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, on Friday, 17 October 2025, according to the police.

In a statement issued Monday, the police spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, said Muhammad lured his younger sister, Rukayya Muhammad, into a nearby bush and then attacked her, brutally removing her eyes.

“On 17th October 2025, at about 1800hrs … one Auwal Dahiru ‘m’, aged 17 years … attacked his daughter Rukayya Muhammad ‘f’, aged 7 years … with the intention of k!lling her and attempted to pluck out her eyes,” the statement read.

Following the attack, the girl was rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi for emergency treatment. A specialist ophthalmologist confirmed that she will never regain her sight.

Five other suspects, described as members of a ritualist syndicate, were arrested in connection with the case. They include 19-year-old Mohammed Rabiu, 20-year-old Saleh Ibrahim, and others from Ganjuwa LGA.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the act was carried out as part of a ritual aimed at obtaining wealth. Police say the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
