Senator Dino Melaye has claimed the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, targeted him by ordering the withdrawal of policemen attached to politicians.
Idris had ordered the withdrawal of all police operatives attached to politicians and other VIPs on Monday.
He cited the security challenges facing the nation as reason for the decision.
The police had arrested two men said to be members of an armed gang, who confessed to have got weapons and financial support from Melaye.
But the lawmaker said on his twitter handle “withdrawal of police from VIP, I am the target.
”IGP wants to expose me so I can be killed.
Having survived assassination attempt twice, I deserve police protection in a country where I’m a tax payer.”
