Hon. Abdulraheem Tunji Olawuyi, a member of the House of Representatives from Ekiti/Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero federal constituency in Kwara State who was re-elected on the platform of the APC, has announced his candidacy for the Speaker position of the green chamber in the upcoming 10th National Assembly.

Speaking to a cross-section of journalists in Lagos recently, Olawuyi said he believes that the North Central region should have the opportunity to produce the next Speaker of the House to ensure fairness and justice.

He stated that he would only be denied the opportunity if the position is not zoned to the North Central region.

Olawuyi declared his interest in the position, acknowledging that he may appear to be an underdog but believes that he is the most qualified candidate.

In his words, he said “I strongly believe that I’m the most qualified rep member who should become the speaker of the 10th Assembly, however, I need to state clearly that I’m not in any way desperate and would align with party rules should the position be zoned to any other region.

Olawuyi said if elected as Speaker of the House, he would run an open policy that would make every stakeholder feel respected and appreciated.
