The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has asked Nigerians to stop blaming corrupt police officers should the Federal Government fail to address the issue of minimum wage and salary increase.
Oba Akanbi also asked the Federal Government to raise the minimum wage for Nigerian police officers to N100,000, saying that if this is done, residents will be brave enough to confront bribe-taking cops.
Constable is the lowest rank in the Nigerian police force. A police constable in Nigeria earns less than N45,000 per month, according to the state’s finance and administration department.
The Oluwo made this known on Wednesday in Ibadan, Oyo State, during a one-day town hall meeting organized by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
While explaining that in many advanced countries, policing was the envy of everybody, the traditional ruler charged the Federal Government to encourage Nigerians to join the force through more funding.
