Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has postponed the presentation of the N47.9 trillion 2025 budget to the national assembly from Tuesday to Wednesday.
The national assembly service commission (NASC) confirmed the change in a statement on Monday.
On November 14, the federal government proposed N47.9 trillion as the total expenditure in the 2025 budget.
Tinubu later submitted the medium-term expenditure framework and fiscal strategy paper (MTEF/FSP) for 2025–2027 to both the senate and the house of representatives on November 19.
The MTEF/FSP are the parameters upon which any budget of the country is based and also serve as a projection of the federal government’s three-year spending plan.
On December 3, the senate approved the MTEF/FSP ahead of the consideration of the 2025 budget proposal.
During a plenary on December 12, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that Tinubu would present the 2025 budget on December 17.
However, in a statement on Monday, Alkali Umar, the secretary of the directorate of human resource and staff development of the NASC, stated that the president will now present the budget on December 18.
“I am directed to inform you that the presentation of 2025 Budget by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, has been postponed to Wednesday, 18th December, 2024,” Alkali said.
“Staff are to resume their normal duties tomorrow, as the controlled entry instructions earlier given would be observed on Wednesday, 18th December, 2024.”
Earlier today, the federal executive council (FEC) approved the N47.96 trillion 2025 budget.
