The presidency and Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central) have clashed over the ongoing face-off between the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris and Senate President Bukola Saraki.

While Saraki was during the week summoned by the Nigerian Police over his alleged involvement in the Offa robbery attack in Kwara State, the National Assembly held a joint session on Tuesday where issues of a possible impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari was on the front burner.

Speaking on Twitter, Senator Sani said: “Supporting the Executive to persecute the lawmakers is setting a dangerous precedent to democracy and nurturing the seed of absolute totalitarianism.”

Reacting, the Personal Assistant of the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie said: “Turning the Nigerian Senate into a PLC that serves only the Senate cabal is a gross betrayal of the people of Nigeria who voted you to represent them.

“Some of you were rejects until you rode on the back of the leader of the executive, @MBuhari who you now seek to frustrate.”
