The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 14 persons for the violence that occurred during the inauguration of the campaign of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Imohimi Edgal, said after reviewing the video of the violence, the police found out that the disruption of the rally was caused by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, adding that a key player in the incident had been declared wanted.

The CP explained that from the preliminary investigation carried out, the police had discovered that the violence at the event was caused by rivalry in the NURTW.

He said, “Around , I led my men to Lagos Island, where some of the boys who caused the crises were hired.

“Around the Millennium Housing Estate, and the area around the bridge, we arrested 14 suspects. Some of them have given us useful information.

“The preliminary investigation we carried out reveals that it is just their internal union crisis. I heard that their state chairman would leave soon and there are some players who wanted to succeed him.

“But the inauguration of a governorship candidate campaign is not a good venue for them to begin their fight. We will not tolerate it,” he said.

Edgal stated that one person died during the incident while three injured persons were admitted to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.

He added that an NURTW leader, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), who was injured during the violence, was taken to the Eko Hospital and was recuperating.
