On Wednesday, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi of the Iyaganku Family Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, ordered the remand of Kareem Mojeed, a tenant, at the Agodi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his landlord’s 7-year-old daughter.

The defendant was brought before the court on a charge of defilement, but Ogunkanmi did not take his plea.

Instead, she ordered the case file to be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. The case was adjourned until October 14, 2024, pending the DPP’s advice.

Earlier, Prosecutor Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji told the court that Mojeed committed the offense on July 21 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ebedi area of Ibadan.

According to Adedeji, Mojeed lured the girl into his room and defiled her, contravening Section 34 of the Oyo State Child’s Rights Law, 2006.
