Ogun Inaugurates Tinubu – Shettima ICC, Tasks Leaders On Non – Voting Residents

Published

The Ogun State chapter of the Tinubu-Shettima Independent Campaign Council (ICC) has been inaugurated with a bold mandate to convince thousands of non-voting residents in the state to vote for the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima ticket in the 2023 Presidential elections.

Addressing members of the state executive committee, senatorial and local government coordinators of the ICC at the ceremony held at the banquet hall of Conference Hotel, Abeokuta over the weekend, the state coordinator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, advised all members to roll up their sleeves and be focused for the tedious work of mass mobilisation in the days ahead.

Otunba Daniel, who was governor of the state for eight years from 2007 to 2015, described the Tinubu- Shettima pair as the most formidable in the race towards Aso Rock come May 2023. He advised all stakeholders to effectively play their parts in mobilizing, educating and convincing registered voters in their neighbourhoods to vote for the All-Progressive Congress (APC) candidates in all the elections.

He said: “We are all very experienced people in elections processes in Nigeria. From what I know already, I can assure you that the 2023 elections will be the most challenging for all contestants at all levels. It, therefore, behoves each and every one of us to immediately brace up for the glaring fresh realities that would follow the introduction of BVAS into our electioneering process.

“I am therefore moved to challenge every one of you who just got inaugurated into different roles at the state, senatorial and local government levels to go back and familiarize yourselves with the realities of BVAS and its introduction into the 2023 elections. You must beef up your individual understanding of the workings of BVAS and ensure you educate all party members and non-party members to vote for the APC.

“I urge you to go to your various local governments and wards; and ensure you seek out all residents with voters’ cards, whether party members or not. Then begin to sensitize, encourage and sell our party to them as well as all our candidates for the various offices”, he admonished.

In his speech at the occasion, Senator Olugbenga Obadara, co-state coordinator with Otunba Daniel further challenged the gathering. “We have been drumming the Asiwaju Tinubu message for a long time and we shall keep doing so till the conclusion of all the elections next year. In this state, the APC is one and our focus is to win all the elections from Presidency to the 26 State Assembly seats.

“Let us all go out and spread the message of the benefits of voting all APC candidates to all offices come 2023. All our candidates are our focus and our concentration and commitment are singular and total. Let us mobilize and strategize for APC from top to bottom”, he said.

Two former speakers of the state legislature and key members of the Ogun TSICC, Rt Hon. Titi Oseni and Rt. Hon. Suraj Adekunbi also took turns in addressing the gathering. They both spoke on the need to eschew bad blood and work as a team towards delivering victory for all APC candidates at the 2023 elections. The event attracted leaders and key stakeholders from the three senatorial districts and 20 local governments of the state.

Sokoto Counters Military, Says 10 Civilians Accidentally Killed In Air Strike

Published

The Sokoto state government says no fewer than 10 civilians were killed when a military air strike targeted suspected terrorists in Gidan Bisa village, Silame LGA of the state.

Abubakar Bawa, press secretary to Ahmed Aliyu, governor of the state, wrote in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Bawa quoted Abubakar Rana, chairman of Silame LGA, as saying that the incident occurred around 6am on Christmas Day, when two military fighter jets “mistakenly” dropped bombs on the village.

Aliyu, who was accompanied by Aliyu Wamakko, leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, and Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, minister of labour and employment, attended the funeral prayers for the victims.

Consoling the villagers, the governor described the incident as “unfortunate.”

“The military jets were on their mission to eliminate criminal armed groups terrorising the state and mistakenly bombed innocent people of this community,” he said.

“We consider this a mistake because the same military had on several occasions successfully raided many criminal hideouts in the state.”

Aliyu prayed for Allah’s forgiveness for the deceased and strength for their families.

Muhammad Sifawa, secretary to the state government, announced a relief package of N20 million and 100 bags of assorted foodstuffs for the families of the deceased.

He also assured that the state government would cover the medical bills of the injured.

The military had denied reports of civilian casualties in the bombing.

Reports said air strikes conducted by the air component of Operation Hadarin Daji, targeting the Lakurawa terrorist group, had inadvertently killed civilians in the Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities.

However, Abubakar Abdullahi, joint media coordinator for the operation, said the strikes targeted locations confirmed to be linked to the insurgents.

“All military operations are based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions to ensure precision and protect civilian lives,” Abdullahi said.

“The targets struck in the vicinity of Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa were positively identified as associated with the Lakurawa group, reinforcing the justification for the military action.”

Olusola Akinboyewa, spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force, told TheCable that the missiles were launched following credible intelligence from multiple sources and confirmatory aerial surveillance.
