Nigerian Women Ranked Top Consumer Of Bleaching Creams In Africa

Nigerian women have been identified as Africa’s top users of skin-whitening cosmetics.

Whitening creams are cosmetics that lighten the skin by reducing the amount of melanin or pigment in the skin.

Skin that is lighter is thought to be more attractive and to have greater social chances, such as marriage and job.

Women and people of color in every region are primarily served by the skin-whitening industry.

According to reports, women account for roughly 80% of all skin-whitening product sales worldwide.

Data drawn by CNN ranked Nigeria as the top consumer of these creams, with 75 percent of its women patronizing whitening products.

This is followed closely by Senegal at 60 percent, Mali at 50 percent, and Ghana at 30 percent.

The global market for skin whitening was put at an estimated $8 billion in 2020 and projected to increase by nearly half of that figure within six years to hit $11.8 billion by 2026.

Also, creams dominate the market for skin-whitening products and are expected to hit $6.6 billion by 2027.

The Asia-Pacific market accounted for over half of the global revenue (54.3%) from skin-whitening products in 2018 and is expected to grow the most.

The rest of the world accounted for (45.7%) within the same period.

China was projected as being among the fastest-growing markets for such products.

Whitening products often contain toxic ingredients which, when used cosmetically for long durations without medical guidance, can both damage the skin and cause life-threatening ailments.

The chemicals used to lighten skin vary greatly worldwide and are constantly evolving.

They include antioxidants such as glutathione, vitamin C, and collagen.

Three ingredients have been listed as being the most common in harmful whitening products worldwide.

They include steroids, hydroquinone, and mercury, all of which are heavily regulated in most countries.

Seun Sean Jimoh, Nollywood actor, has revealed how he had no choice but to sleep with a movie producer to get a movie role.

During a recent Talktobee podcast, Seun Jimoh discussed his career and early years with Nollywood actress Biola Adebayo.

Speaking on the show, Jimoh disclosed that, despite growing up without a father, he had one of the best fathers ever and was nurtured by his mother.

He claimed that in order to get a role, he needed to establish a sexual relationship with a film director.

The actor also disclosed that he was seeking ways to amuse himself and that a married father of three children also attempted to have fun with him.

BREAKING: Court Grants Cubana Chief Priest N10m Bail In Naira Abuse Charge

Famous businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, has been granted N10m bail with two sureties in like sum by the Federal High Court in Lagos State.

It was earlier reported that the celebrity bar man pleaded not guilty to tampering and abusing the naira during his trial.

Cubana Chief Priest was arraigned before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts bordering on abuse of naira by allegedly spraying and tampering with the nation’s currency at a social event, contrary to the provisions of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

He was alleged to have sprayed the naira on February 13, 2024, at Eko Hotel.

Cubana Chief Priest was said to have also committed the offences while dancing during a social event.

He was said to have tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 notes issued by the CBN by spraying the same for two hours.

JUST IN: EFCC Files 3-Count Charge Against Cubana Chief Priest, To Be Arraigned Tomorrow For Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a three-count charge against prominent Instagram personality Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, for allegedly spraying and tampering with the naira during a social event in violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.

Cubana Chief Priest is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday, April 17th, 2024, before Justice Kehinde Ogundare of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The charges was filed on April 4th by EFFC’s prosecutor Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN) alongside seven other lawyers representing the chairman of the Commission.

In Count 1, it was alleged, “that you, Okechukwu Pascal on 13th Feb. 2024, at Eko Hotel, within the jurisdiction of the court, while dancing during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In count 2, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in 2020, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same for two hours, and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

In Count 3, it was alleged, “that you Okechukwu Pascal sometime in January 2024, in Lagos during a social event, tampered with funds in the denomination of N500 (Five Hundred Naira) issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying same and you thereby committed an offence, contrary to and punishable under Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007”.

This is coming days after the EFCC arraigned controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye better known as Bobrisky on similar charges for which he was sentenced to a six-month jail term.
