…… arrested suspected miscreants, hoodlums, and drug peddlers
…….vow to rid the state of criminal elements

The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses Unit (Taskforce) has carried out raids on blackspots at Maruwa Beach, around Brassal Mall on Admiralty Road, and other adjoining areas in Lekki phase 1, Lekki on Friday night to curb the incessant crimes committed by miscreants in that axis. The two places are known to be dens for criminals where all sorts of hard drugs are being sold. They also hang around and break windscreens of vehicles parked around and steal their valuables

The operation which was in collaboration with the Maroko Police Division was led by the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Shola Jejeloye and it lasted for several hours in the night, leading to the arrest of 39 suspects who are known for terrorizing motorists and dealing in illicit drugs.

CSP Jejeloye in his response to the incident at the Headquarters of the Agency at Oshodi said that he had received a series of complaints from residents and members of the public concerning the illegal activities of miscreants who vandalize parked vehicles and steal from passers-by indiscriminately.

“We received a series of complaints from residents whose cars are vandalized once they are parked for a few hours, and even in traffic valuables from the vehicles are stolen. We won’t condone it any longer” he noted.

Jewelry further stressed that the raid was necessary to curb the sale and trafficking of illicit drugs which is slowly becoming a norm around the Coastal roads in Lekki and its environs. Raids and demolition of shanties have been carried out by the Agency last year and several suspects who had hard drugs were arrested and prosecuted

“The sale and consumption of hard drugs are one of the major contributors to the increase in crime rate in our society that is the reason why we have decided to nip it in the bud. More raids will be carried out to reduce the trade in these substances drastically” he stated.

CSP Jejeloye vowed that the Agency will not rest on its oars in ensuring that the crime rate in Lagos is brought down to the barest minimum. He urged Lagosians to be the eyes and ears of the Agency and the police in their neighborhood and ensure that all forms of criminality are reported to the appropriate authorities for swift action.

The Chairman reiterated that all the arrested suspects will be charged to court accordingly with all the exhibits recovered from them.

JUST IN: Yahaya Bello Has Honoured EFCC Invitation — Media Office

Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi, has honored the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to his media office.

Ohiare Michael, the director of Bello’s media office, stated that Bello “today, honoured the invitation” of the anti-graft agency.

This decision was made “after due consultations with his family, legal team and political allies,” Michael added.

The EFCC had filed charges against Bello for alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of N80.2 billion.

Previously, the commission had declared Bello wanted after several attempts to arrest him were unsuccessful.

On August 20, the Court of Appeal in Abuja ordered Bello to surrender himself for arraignment.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC spokesperson, had said the court’s ruling was a “vindication” of the EFCC’s stance that Bello must face trial.

Bello’s media office said the former governor who has “great respect for the rule of law and constituted authority, had, all the while, only sought the enforcement of his fundamental rights in order to ensure due process”.

“The case has been before a competent court of jurisdiction, and Alhaji Yahaya Bello had been duly represented by his legal team at every hearing,” the statement reads.

“It is important for the former Governor to now honour the invitation of the EFCC to clear his name as he has nothing to hide and nothing to fear.

“The former Governor believes firmly in the efforts of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to place Nigeria on the path of sustainable economic development; and supports the fight against corruption in the country.

“It is on record that he was the first Governor of Kogi State to put in place an anti-corruption mechanism to check graft and ensure that the resources of the State work for the people of the State.

“He was accompanied to the EFCC Headquarters by high-profile Nigerians.

“It is our hope that the Commission will be as professional as necessary and respect his fundamental rights as a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The media office added that details of Bello’s engagement with EFCC operatives will be disclosed later.
