JUST IN: RCCG Founder’s Son Pastor Ifeoluwa Akindayomi Dies At 63

Published

on

Pastor Ifeoluwa Akindayomi, the youngest son of the founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pa Josiah Akindayomi, has passed away at the age of 63.

He reportedly died on Sunday, November 2.

His death occurred approximately 45 years after the passing of his father and seven months after the death of his older brother, Pastor Kolade Akindayomi, who died on May 4 this year.

A close family friend told Church Times that the news of his passing came as a shock.

‘Nobody would have thought he would die barely 24 hours after he was chairman of a wedding ceremony.’

The source added that “he was very okay and had no sign of any illness. For him to have served as chairman of a wedding a day before he died was clear indication that he was okay to many of us. But the unexpected did happen.”

According to the account, “he had gone for a prayer walk on Sunday morning and came back to his house at the RCCG Camp and was about to prepare for the Sunday service when he missed his steps and fell headlong, hitting his head on a sharp object in the house. He sustained injury from the fall and passed out. Before he could be helped to the hospital the worst had happened.”

Until his passing, Pastor Ifeoluwa Akindayomi served as Assistant Provincial Pastor of Ogun Province 5 of RCCG and operated a thriving printing press.

According to the source, his wife and children had relocated abroad, “Leaving only him in Nigeria.”

The family had reportedly encouraged him to join them in Canada, where they reside, but he chose to remain in Nigeria due to his business and ministry commitments.

He was also said to have been deeply concerned that his family was not living with him in Nigeria and made efforts to persuade his son to return home to assist with the family business.

“The young man was said to have turned down his father’s request and did not show any interest in coming back to Nigeria,” the source added.

When it became evident that his family would not return, he reportedly made plans to relocate. “I was told he just secured a permanent stay in Canada and was preparing to go and meet his family before his eventual death,” a close acquaintance said.

One of his childhood friends and fellow RCCG pastor, Debo Akinyemi, described him as a humble, gentle individual.

“He was not given to show and lived a very quiet life. Many people never knew him as the son of the founder. He was not the type that would want any attention for himself. He was just content with his business and the bit he could do in God’s vineyard,” Akinyemi said.

He recalled his strong interpersonal skills and commitment to friendships. “He had a good human relations and was doing quite well. The last time I saw him was during the convention of the RCCG. His house was home to many people who came for the convention. I am really devastated to hear of his death.”

Reflecting on their school days at Molusi College, Ijebu Igbo, Akinyemi added, “He was a perfect gentle man. He picks his words and was generally pleasant. There was no air around him… he was just like any other student.

“He did not go about bragging. As a pastor he truly loved God. He would not fight for anything. One would have thought he would have risen to a very high position in the church. But I guess he must have decided by himself to keep low and not agitate for anything. I am personally going to miss him.”

NDLEA Arrests South African Woman with Heroin at Abuja Airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 38-year-old South African woman, Will Ann, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 5.75 kilograms of heroin into Nigeria while travelling with her three-year-old son.

According to the agency, the suspect was arrested on Monday, July 6, 2026, during the inward clearance of passengers aboard Qatar Airways Flight QR1433 from Doha.

NDLEA said the suspect allegedly concealed 14 large blocks of heroin in two suitcases and initially denied travelling with any checked-in luggage.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the anti-narcotics agency said its operatives established that the baggage tags matched the claim tags attached to the suspect’s passport, prompting her to admit ownership of the bags.

The statement read, “Though she initially denied travelling with check-in bags, after operatives were able to quickly establish that the two bags containing the drugs had tags which tallied with the claim tags attached to her passport, she recanted and admitted ownership of the bags, adding that she forgot she checked in the two bags.”

The agency said the suspect claimed she travelled from Cambodia through Doha to Abuja.

NDLEA further alleged that intelligence indicated she was part of a transnational drug trafficking organisation operating along the Cambodia-South Africa axis with her husband and partner, Jan Coenraad De Jager.

[PHOTOS] How 44 Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers Were Rescued From Ansaru Terrorists—— Army

Published

The Nigerian Army has revealed how troops, working with other security agencies, rescued pupils and teachers abducted by suspected Ansaru terrorists in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.

The Army said the victims regained their freedom following an intelligence-led operation that lasted for more than a month and targeted the kidnappers’ network and hideouts in the Old Oyo National Park and other parts of the country.

According to a statement issued hours after the rescue on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Danjuma Danjuma, the operation involved troops of the Nigerian Army led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj. Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife.

The soldiers worked alongside operatives of other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes, and hunters.

The Army said 44 abducted pupils and teachers were rescued in total.

It explained that the operation focused on identifying the terrorist kingpins behind the abduction, dismantling their logistics network, and arresting their informants.

The statement read, “Following an intelligence-led, carefully planned and executed operation on 10 July 2026, troops of the Nigerian Army, led by the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Major General C.R. Nnebeife, in collaboration with special units from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), specifically the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), the Defence Headquarters with Special Forces elements from the Nigerian Army, Navy, the Air Force and the Nigeria Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies, as well as local vigilantes, hunters and Amotekun, in a well-coordinated operation rescued a total of 44 pupils and teachers kidnapped by terrorists from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on 15 May 2026.

“The operations, which lasted for more than a month, focused on identifying the terrorist kingpins that masterminded the kidnapping, busting and dismantling their networks and logistics links, including their informants and hideouts located within the Old Oyo National Park Forest, Oyo State.”

According to the Army, several suspects were arrested in Oyo and other states, a development it said disrupted the group’s activities and forced the terrorists to free the captives.

“As part of the operations, multiple arrests were made within Oyo State and in other locations across some states in the country.

“These arrests completely disorganised the group, exerted overwhelming pressure on them and ultimately led the terrorist group to release the pupils and teachers unconditionally. Further operations are to be conducted,” it stated.

The Army added that the operation was carefully executed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims without collateral damage.

“However, there were some casualties on the part of the security forces,” the statement added.

The Army disclosed that the rescued pupils and teachers are receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital before being handed over to the Oyo State Government for reunification with their families.

The GOC, on behalf of all participating agencies, thanked President Bola Tinubu for his strategic guidance and support, which he said contributed to the operation’s success.

He also commended Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), the Chief of Defence Staff, the Chief of Army Staff, other service chiefs, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu, the Directors-General of the DSS and NIA, and heads of other security agencies for their support.

The Army further appreciated media organisations and Nigerians for supporting the security agencies and urged members of the public to remain vigilant by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.

The victims were abducted on May 15 when gunmen attacked Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School in the Esiele and Yawota communities of Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to earlier official accounts, 39 pupils and seven teachers were taken during the attack, while the assistant headmaster of L.A. Primary School, Joel Adesiyan, was killed during the attack while attempting to escape.

Another teacher, Michael Oyedokun, was beheaded by the terrorists while in captivity.
