Police authorities in Argentina have arrested Ikechukwu N., a Nigerian national, for “orchestrating multiple romance scams involving thousands of women.”

The suspect was apprehended after being placed on INTERPOL’s wanted list — he was the subject of both a Red Notice and a Silver Notice.

The arrest, conducted by the Argentine Federal Police in collaboration with Airport Security Police, marks Argentina’s first-ever detention of a fugitive under a Red Notice who was also under a Silver Notice.

In a statement released by INTERPOL’s headquarters on Tuesday, the international police agency said the suspect led an international cybercrime network and was active in multiple romance scams.

“Argentine authorities have captured Nigerian national Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first arrest of a #RedNotice fugitive who was also the subject of an INTERPOL Silver Notice,” the statement said. “The suspect is accused of orchestrating multiple romance scams involving thousands of women, and leading an international cybercrime network.”

The arrest formed part of Operation Jackal, an INTERPOL-coordinated effort targeting West African organised criminal groups. The operation involved @PFAOficial, @seguridadpsa, IFCACC, FIS, and INTERPOL Brazil.

The Silver Notice pilot project — launched in January 2025 — is aimed at helping nations trace and recover criminal assets.
