Inside Ogun: Three Cultists Arrested For Gang Raping 15-Yrs-Old Girl

Three cultists have been arrested in Ogun State for allegedly gang-raping a minor.

The suspects, Daniel Njoku, Damilare Ogundiran and Adebayo Olamilekan were said to be members of the Eiye confraternity.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested after a report lodged at the Ajuwon divisional headquarters by the mother of the 15-year-old victim.

The mother had reported to the police she sent her daughter on an errand at Akute Odo area, “but she was waylaid on by Daniel Njoku, who forcefully took her to his gang where the young girl was gang-raped, beaten and forcefully initiated into their Eiye cult group,” Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on Sunday.

According to Oyeyemi, the complainant explained further that the young men threatened to kill the victim if she informs anyone about the incident.

Upon the report, the DPO of the Ajuwon division, SP Andrew Akinseye, was reported to have detailed his men to go after the hoodlums, three of whom were apprehended.

“The suspects have confessed to the commission of the crime. They informed the police that they were desperately looking for more members to join their group especially female members, and that was what prompted them to do what they did,” Oyeyemi disclosed.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has ordered that the suspects be transferred to the anti-cultists section of the State CIID.

ECONOMY: CBN Not Using Foreign Reserves To Defend Naira — Olayemi Cardoso

Published

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Olayemi Cardoso, asserts that the nation is not defending the value of the naira with its foreign reserves.

He made this known on Wednesday in Washington, DC, where he is attending the International Monetary Fund-World Bank Spring Meetings.

Cardoso said $600 million came into Nigeria’s reserves account within the last two days.

The naira has appreciated against the dollar in recent weeks, gaining over 40%, from about N1,900/$ to about N1,000/$1 now. But while the naira rebound, Nigeria’s foreign reserves are dwindling, dropping to about $32.29 billion on April 15 — the lowest level in over six years.

Cardoso said, “What you’ve seen with respect to the shift in our reserves is normal in any country’s reserves where for example, debt is due and certain payments need to be made because that is also part of keeping your credibility.

“Other times money comes in, it takes it up again. Between yesterday and today, about $600 million came into the reserves account. We are looking towards a market that operates by itself, willing buyers, willing sellers and price discovery.

“The shift in our reserves has really little or nothing to do with defending naira and that is certainly not our objective.”
