Oba Segun Aremu, the Olukoro of Koro in Kwara State, has been reportedly murdered by unknown gunmen.
The incident happened on Thursday night with the traditional ruler reportedly shot dead in his palace by some unknown armed men, who also abducted away his wife and two others.
This is coming days after gunmen killed two monarchs in Ekiti State.
On Monday, gunmen killed two Ekiti monarchs, the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, while the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaped.
The traditional rulers were returning from a security meeting in Kogi State when they ran into an ambush mounted by the kidnappers who were operating on the highway between Ipao and Oke Ako in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
The State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq while reacting, condemned the killing of Olukoro of Koro, describing the ugly incident as reckless, shocking, and abominable.
The Governor in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, charged the security agencies not to spare any resources to track down the perpetrators, free the spouse and others taken away, and bring them to book.
“We will certainly get the perpetrators and ensure that this is their last crime against humanity.
“My profound condolences go to the people of Koro. Our hearts are broken, and we stand by them at this time and always.”
