Suspected herdsmen have reportedly ordered residents of Mbatoho community in Makurdi, Benue state, to vacate their homes.
The community, which is located on an Island in Makurdi town, is said to be inhabited by about 5,000.

According to reports, the leader of the community has lodged a complaint with deputy governor, Benson Abounu.
“Herdsmen who were fully armed with sophisticated weapons early hours of yesterday (Monday) stormed our community, Mbatoho, and ordered everyone to leave,” Punch quoted the leader, who identified himself as John Tehemen, as saying.

“The herdsmen came in large numbers but they did not harm anyone; they only asked us to leave.” It was gathered that the government has received the information from the community, and has ordered security adviser, Paul Hemba, to go and find out the situation.
