Egbaliganza 2026 Unveils Africa’s First Official Culture and Fashion Exchange at Press Conference

Published

on

The press conference announcing the 2026 edition of Egbaliganza concluded today at Abeokuta, Ogun State, marking a significant milestone in the growth of one of Africa’s most ambitious cultural platforms. The conference, a formal precursor to the Egbaliganza event scheduled for March 28, 2026, brought together cultural stakeholders, institutional representatives, government partners, and media to present the full vision and programme for what has been officially positioned as Africa’s first Culture and Fashion Exchange.

Now in its third consecutive year as a flagship programme of the Lisabi Festival, Egbaliganza 2026 represents the most expansive edition of the platform to date.

Conceived in honour of Lisabi Agbongboakala, the legendary Egba hero and liberator , and inspired by the visionary royal guidance of Kabiyesi, the Alake of Egbaland, HRM Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Egbaliganza has grown from a proud local celebration of Egba identity into a fully continental initiative. The 2026 edition formalises that evolution, convening over 50 nations, governments, cultural institutions, designers, artisans, investors, and diaspora stakeholders in Abeokuta for a multi-day programme that blends deep-rooted tradition with bold contemporary cultural presentation.

The press conference opened with a clear statement of purpose from the platform’s leadership. Aare (Dr.) Lai Labode, Visionary Custodian of the Lai Labode Heritage Foundation and Convener of Egbaliganza, addressed attendees on the platform’s mandate and trajectory.

“Egbaliganza was conceived as a gift to the Egba people and a living monument to Lisabi Agbongboakala , our symbol of courage, sacrifice, and collective will,” he said.

“Under the leadership of the Lisabi Festival Committee and the royal blessing of Kabiyesi Alake, Egbaliganza has become a strategic cultural engine within the Lisabi Festival. Our focus is clear: to use creativity, heritage, and organised celebration to strengthen the unity of Egbaland, amplify Egba identity, and open new social and economic doors for our people. Lisabi Festival gives us the platform. Egbaliganza gives us the expression. The unity and progress of Egbaland remain our purpose.”

At the press conference, Aare (Dr) Lai Labode detailed the full programme for March 28, which includes the Parade of Nations, a large-scale cultural convergence featuring delegations from over 50 countries, each presenting their distinct cultural identity alongside the Egba people on a shared stage.

A formal charter signing will accompany the Parade, establishing long-term commitments between participating nations and the Egbaliganza platform across culture, tourism, and creative enterprise.

Further programme highlights include the Walk of Heroes and Walk of Kings, honouring legacy and leadership within Egba society and across participating cultures; the Egba Fashion Club Runways and Hackathons, which place indigenous textiles including Àdìrẹ and Aso-Oke at the intersection of tradition, technology, and modern enterprise; the unveiling of the Alake-Egbaliganza Drum also called the Unity Drum to be built by a son of Egbaland for Egbaland during the festival there will be performance of the Egbaliganza 80 man orchestral Band as well as the “Oja Egbaliganza” showcase, which will present historic Egba garments and cultural artefacts spanning centuries, including ancient attire estimated between 3,000 and 4,000 years old. The programme will close with the Gala Night, Flame of a Continent, a curated evening of performance, ceremonial presentations, and cultural storytelling, and the formal Lisabi Day Celebration honouring Egba ancestors and heritage custodians as the 39th Lisabi Festival is marked.

A central theme of today’s press conference was the role of culture as a direct driver of economic development, at the grassroots, national, and continental levels.

Aare (Dr) Lai Labode highlighted how previous editions of Egbaliganza have delivered increased hotel occupancy across Abeokuta, direct income for local artisans, designers, and craftsmen, international visibility for Egba creatives, and renewed diaspora engagement.

The 2026 edition, a proof of concept for the Afroliganza movement, the African Global Fashion Games is projected to expand these outcomes significantly, supported by a diaspora investment pipeline of $2 million and above, and an industry elevation framework that targets the growth of Africa’s culture and fashion valuation from $30 billion to $500 billion through structured markets, policy alignment, and sustained global visibility.

Egbaliganza also confirmed the successful securing of official Federal Government recognition for the Lisabi Festival through the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy. This development strengthens the festival’s national cultural status and opens new doors for institutional support and cultural tourism across Ogun State and beyond.

It is no small thing that the world is being invited to Abeokuta. The Egba people have always known the weight of what they carry, in their history, their craftsmanship, their language, and their identity. Egbaliganza 2026 is the moment that weight becomes a platform. Fifty nations will stand on that platform on March 28. And when they do, Abeokuta will not just be a city on a map. It will be the cultural capital of a continent finding its voice.

Egbaliganza-Lisabi Festival 2026 is scheduled for March 28, 2026, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Kayode Alfred: When Elegance Meets Enterprise

Published

on

In the ever-evolving theatre of Nigerian style, media, and high society, one name glows with quiet authority and cultivated grace — Kayode Alfred. He is not merely a man of fashion, nor solely a chronicler of celebrity life; he is a rare synthesis of vision, craftsmanship, and cultural finesse.
From the polished corridors of celebrity journalism to the bespoke ateliers of haute couture, Alfred’s journey reads like a modern African renaissance tale — one where ink transforms into silk, and storytelling matures into sartorial poetry. As the creative force behind Aristocrat Clothing, he has redefined bespoke fashion as an intimate dialogue between fabric and identity, tailoring garments that whisper refinement and command presence without excess.
Yet Alfred’s elegance transcends couture. It flows seamlessly into hospitality, where The Carpenters Restaurant & Lounge stands as a social sanctuary — a space where Lagos’ elite gather not merely to dine, but to commune, converse, and celebrate life’s finer rhythms. Here, ambience becomes art, and leisure becomes legacy.
What distinguishes Kayode Alfred is not flamboyance, but measured excellence. His philosophy is simple yet profound: true luxury is restraint perfected. In a world addicted to spectacle, he builds quietly, deliberately, and enduringly — crafting institutions, nurturing talent, and mentoring a new generation through ventures like the Aristocrat Institute of Fashion Design.
Society pages celebrate his milestones, but it is his discipline that deserves reverence. His story is not one of sudden ascent, but of patient cultivation — a man who mastered visibility before choosing significance, who embraced influence only after earning integrity.
Kayode Alfred stands today as a gentleman of many chapters: a journalist who learned the anatomy of fame, a designer who mastered the language of elegance, an entrepreneur who builds ecosystems, not empires, and a cultural tastemaker whose legacy is stitched into Nigeria’s modern lifestyle narrative.
In him, ambition is tailored to humility, and success is worn with dignity. He does not chase relevance — relevance finds him.
And in the quiet confidence of his stride, one truth becomes undeniable: Kayode Alfred is not merely living in style. He is defining it.
