“Let me express how happy I am to be part of this great function, a programme that provides a great relaxation for the regimented officers who in the course of their daily duties, never find time to rest,” the governor noted.

“The founding fathers of West African Social Activity, WASA, thought it right that every year, a day will be set aside to let the soldiers interact with their families, exchange cultures, traditions and build bridges of friendship and brotherhood.

“This is a well thought out programme and it is commendable. I want to salute them and the Nigeria Army for keeping the spirit of unity.”

Continuing he said: “General Hamza Ibrahim Bature, the GOC, let me congratulate you and your men and tell you that the Army played a very great role in the security we enjoy in Imo state. And we are proud to announce to everybody that Imo state is about the safest state in the country.

“We are proud of the soldiers. In the same vein, I want to thank other security agencies, for the role they collectively played in working with the Nigeria Army.

“I have enjoyed the cultural dances and the tug of war. I even thought it was only the soldiers that are strong and I did not know that their wives are stronger. I want to say that WASA is a great event.”
