Ghanaian Chef Smith Arrested For Forging Guinness World Record In Cooking Marathon [PHOTOS]

Ebenezer Smith, a Ghanaian chef known as Millennium Chef Smith, has been taken into custody at the LA Police Station for allegedly falsifying a Guinness World Record for marathon cooking.

Smith had earlier presented a certificate to his fans at a press conference, claiming to have set a new world record for cooking non-stop for 820 hours and 25 minutes, from February 1 to March 6, 2024.

The event was attended by several celebrities, including Praye Tietia, Yaw Tog, Amerado, Kofi Jamar, and the Asakaa Boys.

However, it appears that Smith’s achievement has been called into question, leading to his arrest and detention.

During the briefing, which was held at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra, the chef said, “Today is the day that I will forever remember. I am incredibly humbled and honoured to stand before you today as the Guinness World Record holder.”

Earlier, the Ghanaian chef wrote in a social media post, “It is with great pleasure and honour that we inform the general public and the media about Millennium Chef Smith’s press conference.

“He will be announcing his results from the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual. The event will take place at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Confirming the invalidity of his certificate to BBC, the PR Executive for GWR, Alina Polianskaya, said, “No, this is not true at all. He does not hold the GWR title, and that is not our certificate.

“The current and true record holder is: The longest cooking marathon (individual) is 119hr 57 min 16 sec and was achieved by Alan Fisher (Ireland) in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from 28 September to 3 October 2023,” he added.

It was gathered that Smith had gotten money from many of his sponsors to attempt a cook-a-thon that he did not properly file in for GWR and was arrested by a sponsor identified as the owner (name withheld) of the Amadia Shopping Mall who donated about 350,000 cedis to the course.

Every attempt to contact the LA Police for a comment proved abortive. Their number was unreachable, and the mail was not delivered to the address provided on their website.

Irish chef Alan Fisher is the record holder for the longest cooking hours, having clocked in 119 hours and 57 minutes.

His feat is 24 hours more than the previous record held by Nigeria’s Hilda Baci.

“Alan Fisher (Ireland), an owner and chef of a restaurant in Japan, has broken two cooking-related Guinness World Records titles.

“First up, he’s claimed the longest cooking marathon (individual) after clocking in a time of 119 hours 57 minutes. That is more than 24 hours longer than the previous record held by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.”

El-Rufai Denies Corruption Allegations, Vow To Swear On Quran

Published

on

A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that his decision to enter politics was motivated solely by a desire to serve the people, not to accumulate wealth or misuse public funds.

El-Rufai made this statement on Tuesday during a Hausa program broadcasted on “Freedom Radio,” Kaduna.

Speaking openly, the former governor refuted allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure, asserting that he was financially comfortable before assuming office.

The “Kaduna State House of Assembly” had previously accused El-Rufai’s administration of misappropriating over N423 billion during his eight-year term.

However, El-Rufai and his associates have consistently denied the accusations, describing them as “politically motivated.”

“I did not join politics to steal money or enrich myself. I was satisfied with what I had before becoming governor,” El-Rufai stated, adding that he is willing to swear on the Quran to prove his innocence, provided that other former governors and current leaders do the same.

“I have always prayed for guidance in all I do, and I strive not to betray the trust of the people. Whenever the former governors of Kaduna State and other leaders are ready to swear with the Quran that they never misappropriated public funds, I will join them. I have no fear because I know I never took money that belonged to the people,” he said.

The former governor expressed disappointment over the accusations, noting that his administration has been charged without any clear evidence of where the funds went missing or who took them.

He also claimed that his allies were being targeted and summoned by the “Independent Corrupt Practices Commission” and the “Economic and Financial Crimes Commission” as part of a smear campaign against him.

“I have left everything to God’s judgment. I have prayed and will remain silent on the issue. I have instructed my lawyers to take legal action against those tarnishing my name, but for now, I’m focused on my activities like reading and writing,” he said.

El-Rufai highlighted that service to the people continues even after leaving office, saying, “You don’t need to hold a position in government to serve. We are still working with like-minded individuals who genuinely want to serve the people, not those seeking to enrich themselves.”

Looking forward, El-Rufai revealed his intention to return to politics in 2027 after completing his studies, adding, “There is no retirement in politics. God willing, we will return and continue serving the people.”
