The federal government has announced the implementation of the new minimum wage for civil servants.

This was revealed by Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, who mentioned that civil servants will soon receive notifications regarding their updated salaries.

On Tuesday, the Chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta, confirmed that the government has approved an upward revision of the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), in line with the Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had approved the N70,000 minimum wage on July 18, 2024, and the Senate subsequently passed the new minimum wage bill into law.

While Mokwa did not provide details on whether outstanding arrears would be included in the payments, he emphasized that civil servants would start receiving their new wages from today.
