Minister of foreign affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and former senate president, Ken Nnamani, have been suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu over anti-party activities.

The party also expelled Sullivan Chime, a former governor; Eugene Odoh, a former speaker of the state assembly, Osita Okechukwu, director-general of Voice of Nigeria (VON), among others.

Speaking with journalists after the party’s executive council meeting, Robert Ngwu, secretary of the APC, said anti-party activities undermine the ability of a party to fulfill its role and harm the functioning of democracy.

Ngwu said the APC has audio, text, and video evidence to back the claim against Nnamani.

He added that an extended state executive committee (SEC), including local government chairmen and secretaries of the party, ratified the recommendation of the disciplinary committee and unanimously agreed to the immediate suspension and expulsion of the affected chieftains.

“The party is fully aware of the nefarious activities of the previous administration of the party in the 2015 and 2019 general election,” Ngwu said.

“With that in mind, the party reviewed various petitions and reports from the fact-finding committee and the disciplinary committee against some individuals.“They are Sen. Ken Nnamani, Barr. Sullivan Chime, Hon. Geoffrey Onyeama, Hon. Eugene Odoh, Mr Osita Okechukw

u, and others from their different local government areas.

“The petition bothered on anti-party activities and other offences against the APC constitution.”
