President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday formally declared his retention to run for re-election in the 2019 general elections, a move applauded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths Renaissance.
This was disclosed in a statement by the group’s national secretary, Collins Edwin. He said the group is delighted the president heeded the people’s “clarion call”.
The statement said, “We have long ago endorsed him as our presidential candidate, but for accepting our clarions call as well as that of many Nigerians at this defining moment of our national history is truly worth celebrating.
“This is a president who has re-positioned the battered image of Nigeria within the shortest time frame he has being in the office. Our country is no longer a pariah state as investors confidence in Nigeria is now unprecedented.
“While we solicit the understanding of statesmen in this noble task of reelecting President Buhari, we, however, urge all supporters of our great party to embark on grassroots sensitisation campaigns by taking the message of Mr President as well as the manifestos of our great party to the Nigerian people.
“With President Buhari’s acceptance to consolidate on the democratic gains or dividends established in the last three years, Nigeria has indeed began its journey to real greatness.”
