Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja, has assured Nigerians that the military would continue to confront security challenges in the country.

Lagbaja gave the assurance on Monday when he inaugurated the newly constructed headquarters of the 8 division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto.

“I must admit that the nation has faced some security challenges along the way, but the troops have been responding to these challenges across the country,” Lagbaja said.

“We will continue to do all within our power to combat every security challenge confronting the country and meet the expectations of the country in providing a secure environment for economic activities to thrive.”

He urged Nigerians to aid the army in their fight against criminals in the nation by providing them with useful information.

According to Lagbaja, the purpose of building army formations was to position the troops closer to the populace so they could respond to security threats quickly and effectively.

The new barracks, he continued, would improve regimentation and the coordination of reactions to security threats.

He expressed gratitude to Farouk Yahaya, his predecessor, for assembling the funding for the Sokoto and Sifawa facilities.

Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, and Ahmad Aliyu, the governor, were also thanked for their assistance.
