APC House Of Reps Aspirant Dumps Party, Picks SDP Governorship Ticket

Published

on

A House of Representatives aspirant, Mr. Ndubuisi Chibueze-Agbo, who contested for Ohaukwu/Ebonyi Federal Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State has joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Chibueze, who is a former commissioner of Education under the former governor, Chief Martin Elechi’s administration announced his exit from his former party at a rally held in Ngbo, Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi.

Agbo at the rally also received the SDP’s endorsement to fly the party’s flag in the 2019 governorship election in Ebonyi.

According to him, his decision to quit his former party, APC was due to injustice and lack of internal party democracy which had bedeviled the party.

“Truly, my resignation from my former party, the APC is because the party is bedeviled with lack of internal democracy, injustice and fraught with irregularities, calumny, and political atrocities.

“We made personal sacrifices, formed a merger and paddled a common boat propelled with a vision to emancipate the good people of our dear state but some political ‘Judases’ in a bid to push their own selfish interest betrayed our trust.

“They dashed the hope of our people and returned vanity for our collective costly labour and efforts.

“I became disenchanted and disappointed at the lack of healthy party politics and healthy internal party democracy in APC, the hollowness of the party executive as well as a deliberate and wanton disregard to party rules and guidelines.

“Indeed, the APC we laboured for at the risk of our personal comforts and investments is now converted to an ‘auction’ market where the highest bidder takes it all.

“Consequently, things fell apart in the party and those of us whose vision for a better Ebonyi cannot be shattered left the party not for personal gains but for the over-riding interest of our dear state”.

The SDP gubernatorial candidate explained that he was in the party to champion the cause of repositioning Ebonyi for the good and wellbeing of the citizenry.

“Today and now, I sincerely offer myself to you for your indispensable support as we make our vision, our mission and our dream a reality of forming the next government of Ebonyi where I shall serve you as the governor”, he added.

Chibueze-Agbo said that his government would focus on five cardinal areas, including education, health, security, agriculture, youths and women empowerment if elected.

The state Chairman of SDP, Austin Nweze, while handing the party’s flag to him, described him as a bridge-builder and versatile politician.

Nigeria Politics Is About Betrayal – I Witnessed It In 2015 — Goodluck Jonathan

Published

on

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that betrayal is a common feature of Nigerian politics, recalling his experience during the 2015 general elections.

Jonathan spoke on Thursday at the 70th birthday celebration of Mike Oghiadomhe, former Edo deputy governor, in Benin, the state capital.

“Politics in the Nigerian standard is about betrayals. I witnessed a lot of betrayal during the 2015 election,” Jonathan said.

He noted that many politicians lack consistency, adding that few can be trusted.

“You will find it difficult to see somebody who will say the same thing in the morning and say the same thing in the afternoon and in the evening,” he said.

“They will tell you something this minute, and in the next hour, they will say another. But, I am quite pleased to associate with Oghiadomhe.”

The former president praised Oghiadomhe as a dependable ally, describing him as someone who would “take a bullet” on his behalf.

“For me, he is somebody you can take his words to the bank. Most politicians, you cannot take their words to the bank,” Jonathan added.

Oghiadomhe, who served as Edo deputy governor between 1999 and 2007, was Jonathan’s chief of staff from 2010 to 2014.
