Crisis Hits Lagos Labour Party As Pressure Mounts On Chairman, Kayode Salako To Resign

Published

on

A certain group has continued to doubt the chairman of Lagos Labour Party as regards his sincerity to lead the party to success in the next year’s general election.

Following the composition of the State Executive of the Labour Party, LP in Lagos State recently, there have been unending crisis within the party leadership that could mar the chances of the party in the State come 2023 despite the generous support the party is enjoying from different support groups and general public.

Reports monitored on social medial revealed that the party stakeholders both at all levels level have lost confidence in the state executive led by Comrade Kayode Salako and his secretary for not adhering to the Constitution of the party and anti-party activities hence the party’s support groups have demanded for their immediate resignation from the party or removal by the appropriate party organs.

Allegations levelled against the party chairman include his failure to set up relevant structures for the party across and failure to work with party’s support groups to harness all the benefits that are being championed by support groups and members of the public willing to support the party in deepening its reach across Lagos State and smooth running of the party as being done and experienced in other South Western States such as Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Ondo States. It is alleged that rather than build up the party across Lagos State, Comrade Kayode Salako is alleged to be busied in destroying and tearing down the party’s relationships with the support groups and other stakeholders. Indeed, it appears the reason is not far fetched as it was alleged recently on social media that Comrade Kayode Salako is a mole sent by the presidential candidate of the ruling party, All Progressive Party Bola Tinubu to destroy the gains of Labour Party in Lagos State and Comrade Kayode Salako seems to be carrying out this sinister agenda perfectly since he assumed office as the Party Chairman in Lagos state.

They also cited lack of sound judgment behind the State party chairman’s wife, Folake Daramola being a campaign manager of the  Presidential candidate of APC and the party in Lagos State. One then wonders how safe the campaign strategies of the Labour Party will be in the hand of Comrade Kayode Salako who is literally in bed with the campaign manager of the Presidential candidate of APC, Bola Tinubu.

They also accused the duo of running fowl against the party guidelines by bringing and allowing people who are not state exco members to attend, sit and participate in the meeting of only 24 executive members contrary to the letter dated May 18, 2022 from the national leadership of the Party, which stated the limited numbers of who could take part in exco meeting.

They cited the case of an alleged Lover of the State Secretary,Jennifer Ukachi, who is constantly allowed to attend and sit at the exco meeting. Also, the state party chairman who brings retinue of outsiders including thugs to sit down and participate in the state exco meetings. All these, the different support groups argued run contrary to the 24-membership Exco appointed by the National leadership’s letter of May 18, 2022 seen by this reporter. The State Chairman and State Secretary have actually turned to the State Exco meeting into rendezvous for their shenanigans.

The party support groups therefore appeal to the leadership of the party and stakeholders to immediately look into these anomalies and allegations against the party leadership in Lagos State before the commencement of campaigns, rallies and the likes so that the Labour Party in Lagos is not be put to disrepute and is able to reap the good will of the OBI-dients moments.

They appeared before Justice Christopher Boyko at the US District Court of Ohio.

A Nigerian pastor, Edward Oluwasanmi, has been sentenced by a United States District Court to 27 months in prison for defrauding the COVID-19 relief fund.

His associate, the Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, forfeited his property to the US government while awaiting a court ruling set for August 1.

Oluwasanmi and Oba Oloyede were arrested in early 2024 for fraudulently obtaining $4.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds.

They were charged with 13 counts, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, conspiracy to defraud, money laundering, and engaging in monetary transactions involving criminal proceeds.

They were brought before Justice Christopher Boyko at the US District Court of Ohio.

Reports indicated both men pleaded guilty to some of the charges under a plea agreement.

According to court documents, Judge Boyko sentenced Oluwasanmi on Wednesday, July 2, to 27 months on counts one, 11, and 12 of the indictment.

The sentences will run concurrently.

The court also ordered Oluwasanmi to pay a $15,000 fine and report to the U.S. Marshal Service.

The court stated, “Supervised release three years on each of counts 1 and 11-12, all such terms to run concurrently, with standard and special conditions.”

It also declared, “As a result of the foregoing offenses, defendants Joseph Oloyede and Edward Oluwasanmi shall forfeit to the United States: all property, real and personal, which constitutes – or is derived from – proceeds traceable to the commission of the wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy offenses; all property constituting, or derived from, proceeds the defendants obtained, directly or indirectly, as the result of the wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy offenses and any and all property, real and personal involved in the money laundering offenses, and any property traceable to such property.”

Oluwasanmi will forfeit a commercial property located at 422 South Green Road, South Euclid, Ohio. Meanwhile, the court scheduled Friday, August 1, for the sentencing of Oloyede after the monarch pleaded guilty to counts one and 13 of his indictment.

On Monday, April 21, Oba Oloyede, a US-based accountant and information systems professional crowned Apetu in July 2019, entered his guilty plea before the court.

Oba Oloyede and Oluwasanmi were accused of submitting fake applications for the Paycheck Protection Programme and Economic Injury Disaster Loans under the US Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act between April 2020 and February 2022.

They allegedly used falsified tax and wage documents to obtain funds intended to help struggling businesses during the pandemic.

The Act was meant to offer emergency financial relief to Americans facing the economic consequences of COVID-19 by providing loans to small businesses and nonprofits.

Oba Oloyede was alleged to have used some of his companies, including Available Tax Services Incorporated, Available Financial Corporation, and Available Transportation Company, to commit the fraud.

Following the monarch’s disappearance, the Osun State Government said it would wait for the conclusion of his trial before deciding on any action.

The state Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said, “A person is innocent until a court convicts them. So, we don’t want to jump the gun; let us wait for the court’s pronouncement on the matter.”
