Published

on

A 50-year old man, Mr Daniel Okafor, has committed suicide after he allegedly attacked his wife with acid in their home at Mbaise Nsugbe, Anambra State.

It was gathered from a source that the man poured acid on his wife after he had reportedly discovered that she had documented their son as next-of-kin for a house she supposedly built.

The source said that after the acid attack, in what appeared to be a murder-suicide attempt, Mr Okafor, thinking that he had killed his wife, allegedly drank a deadly substance suspected to be acid before the couple were rushed to the hospital.

The wife, Mrs Paulina Okafor, survived the deadly attack.

According to the source: “When the man found out that the building paper was in the name of their son he could not take it, so he decided to pour acid in her and the husband also drank the acid as well, thinking that he had killed the wife before they were taken to hospital, where the man was confirmed dead and the wife in critical condition.”

State Police Public Relations Officer Mr Haruna Mohommed, a Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident, said Mr Okafor man died at the hospital, while his wife was responding to treatment.

“On the 06/02/2019 at about 03:00am, there was a report at 3-3 Police Station Onitsha that one Daniel Okafor of Nsugbe allegedly poured some chemical substance suspected to be acid on his wife one Mrs Paulina Okafor of same address.

“Following the report, Police detectives attached to 3-3 Division visited the scene and rushed the victim to Immaculate Heart Hospital Onitsha for treatment. Consequently, the suspect also looked very sick and was equally rushed to Multi Care Hospital for medical attention”.

“The doctor confirmed that the suspect seems to have drank some quantities of the chemical he allegedly poured on his wife. He was later certified dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment, and his corpse deposited at Apex mortuary for autopsy,” the police spokesman reported.

“Meanwhile, the wife is responding to treatment and the case is under investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident,” he concluded.

A man, Daniel Okafor, has allegedly committed suicide at Nsugbe in the Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State because his wife, Pauline, refused to name him the inheritor of a house she built.

It was gathered that Pauline nominated her son as the inheritor of the property, a development that said to have angered her husband.

As a consequence, Daniel reportedly bathed her in a substance suspected to be acid and thereafter took his own life.

A source, who begged not to be named, explained that the deceased attacked his wife after she built a house and used their son as her next of kin and inheritor of the property.

“When the man found out, he could not take it, so he decided to pour acid on her. The husband also drank the acid and died, while his wife is currently hospitalised at a clinic,” the source said.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the story to our correspondent.

He said the incident happened around 3am on Tuesday.

Mohammed stated, “Around 3am, there was a report at the 3-3 Police Station, Onitsha, that one Daniel Okafor of Nsugbe allegedly poured a chemical substance suspected to be acid on his wife, one Mrs Pauline Okafor, of the same address.

“Following the report, police detectives attached to the 3-3 Division visited the scene and rushed the victim to the Immaculate Heart Hospital, Onitsha, for treatment.

“The suspect also looked very sick and was equally rushed to the Multi Care Hospital for medical attention. The doctor confirmed that the suspect seemed to have drank some quantity of the chemical he allegedly poured on his wife.

“He was later certified dead by a medical doctor while still receiving treatment and his corpse was deposited at the Apex Mortuary for autopsy.”

The PPRO added that the wife was responding to treatment and that the case was under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

UPDATE: US Company Costco Denies Selling Baby Oil To Diddy

American wholesale corporation, Costco, has denied selling “baby oil” to disgraced rapper and music executive, Sean Combs, aka Diddy.

The federal officers seized supplies that they say were intended for use in orgies known as “freak offs,” including drugs and more than 1,000 bottles of “baby oil” during the raiding of Diddy’s Beverly Hills mansion in March.

In a new TMZ Studios documentary, ‘The Downfall of Diddy: The Indictment’, the rapper’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo suggested he had 1,000 bottles of “baby oil” because he buys them in bulk from Costco.

Reacting to Diddy’s lawyer’s claim, Costco said they don’t sell “baby oil.”

“None of the company’s US locations carry ‘baby oil,'” Costco told TMZ.

Diddy was recently arrested by Homeland Security on suspicion of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and interstate transportation for prostitution.

Diddy has denied all the charges, entering a not-guilty plea on Tuesday, 17 September.

However, the Bad Boy Records’ boss’ bail request was rejected twice.

Naomi Campbell Gets 5-Yr Ban From Being Charity Trustee In UK For “Using Funds On Spa Treatment”

Published

Naomi Campbell, the British supermodel, has been banned from serving as a charity trustee in England and Wales for five years.

The UK Charity Commission found that her charity, Fashion for Relief, was “poorly governed and managed financially” by its trustees.

The investigation, conducted from April 2016 to July 2022, revealed that only 8.5% of the funds raised were spent on charitable grants.

Additionally, charity funds were reportedly used for Campbell’s stays in luxurious hotels, spa treatments, and cigarettes.

Campbell responded to the findings in an interview, expressing her concern and claiming she was not aware of these expenses, as she had entrusted the charity’s management to a legal employer. She said, “I was not in control of my charity.”

Veronica Chou and Bianca Hellmich, other trustees, were also sanctioned.

Hellmich was banned for nine years for receiving unauthorized funds, while Chou was banned for four years.

Tim Hopkins, part of the investigation team, stated that Campbell and the other trustees had failed in their legal duties.

Approximately £344,000 has been recovered, and an additional £98,000 of charitable funds has been protected.

The recovered funds were used to make donations to other charities and settle liabilities.

Campbell founded Fashion for Relief in 2005 with the aim of relieving poverty.

Why Tinubu Shouldn’t Trust His “Kitchen Cabinet” — Former Communications Adebayo Shittu

Published

on

A former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, has advised President Bola Tinubu against trusting some of his closest advisors when it comes to recommending individuals for ministerial positions, particularly as he prepares for a cabinet reshuffle.

Shittu shared his insights during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.

He highlighted that some members of the President’s kitchen cabinet, who should ideally seek out technocrats for ministerial roles, have their own vested interests and may only suggest candidates who align with their personal agendas.

“You cannot trust anybody, even if you are talking of kitchen cabinet,” Shittu remarked, noting that some current cabinet members have not met expectations.

He elaborated, “This will be the first time he (Tinubu) would be recruiting people from all parts of the country most of whom he may never have met in life.

But he may just be riding on the recommendation, perhaps, of interested power blocs within the party who would give information and sell their candidate for one reason or the other.”

Shittu emphasized, “Mr President has an opportunity to decide what he wants. If you are not there and if he does not tell you exactly what he wants, it would be very difficult but I think one failing in our system in this country is that when people are appointed, or about to be appointed, we don’t have a kind of orientation exercise which perhaps will take a week or two weeks to school those to be given jobs to understand the priorities of their employer.”

Since taking office, Tinubu has appointed 48 ministers as of August 2023, shortly after his inauguration.

The Senate quickly screened and confirmed these ministers. However, one minister, Betta Edu, faced suspension in January, while another, Simon Lalong, transitioned to the Senate.

Calls for a cabinet reshuffle have intensified, with many Nigerians expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of several ministers amid rising inflation, a challenging economic landscape, and increasing insecurity.

This week, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga indicated that the President would indeed be reshuffling his cabinet but did not specify a timeline for this reorganization.
