He signed the bill 34 days after the state House of Assembly passed it. The law criminalises land grabbing or forceful takeover of landed property in the state.

The bill was passed on October 11, 2016. It is titled, “H.B. No. 03/2016 – A bill for a law to prohibit forcible entry and occupation of landed properties, violent and fraudulent conducts in relation to landed properties, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and allied matters and for other matters incidental thereto or connected therewith.”

According to the law, the death sentence applies when a life is or lives are lost in such a forceful takeover of land. Kidnappers also risk a life sentence.

However, at the peaceful neighbourhood of Isoso community, GRA Quarters, Sagamu, Ogun state; Land Grabbers has been drizzling terror on the dwellers of Sagamu and its vicinities; the community was disrupted some days ago by hoodlums, who stormed the area as thousand residents fled their homes.

The hooligans, who the residents described as land grabbers, aka ‘Omoniles,’ were said to have vandalised property worth millions of Naira.

The leader of the hoodlums, Chief Mutairu Owoeye aka (Baba Owoeye) who were said always using Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) to perpetuate his forbidding land grabbing activities was boasting he is above the law and no government can halt his actions

We gathered that sometimes ago, two families had a dispute over three hectares of land, and both headed to court.

In the end, both families secured the same Supreme Court judgment ceding the three hectares property for the two families that both must be in consent whenever any of them decides to sell out of the property.

We learnt that Mr Jimoh Olatunji the Agba Akin of Makun Kingdom in Sagamu cohort with Mr Onayemi, Mr Mutairu Owoeye AKA (Baba Owoeye) and one Olowo Ake led a 200 bandits harmed with sophisticated firearms, offensive weapons, malicious destruction/ demolition of houses and industries property, terrorizing the whole community whose their properties does not any way in jurisdiction of the three hectares of land belongs to the said families.

The Reporter herein did a shoddy job, if he had taken the pains to demand for the relevant Supreme Court Judgment he would have been abreast of the true position instead of lending himself as a willing tool in the hands of Criminals. There is no Supreme Court case or Judgment. The Parties went to the High Court, judgment was delivered in Suit No. HCS/47/2006 .Isiaka Balogun &Anor(on behalf of Isooso family) Vs Kolawole Oduyiga &3 It’s on 22/112012 granting the claim of Isooso family and dismissing the counter claim of the persons crying foul now. The appeal filed by these wailers was abandoned as it was incompetent and struck out by Court of Appeal.Thereafter the Court issued a Writ of Possession and execution was carried out and possession handed over to the Claimants. The defendants who lost in Court now engaged the services of a notorious land grabber called TERIBA to reclaim the land they lost in Court. He stationed thugs on the land, it is only now that their thugs are being displaced that your services is being used to mislead the public. No single house has been demolished or damaged, you can upload the picture if there is, the signpost/Billboard unlawfully placed on the land was the only object touched. No person has a right to remain on a land he has been adjudged not to be the owner and more importantly in respect of which execution has been levied. Please appeal to MR TERIBA and his gang of criminals to respect constituted Authorities by obeying the judgment of the Court. A man who is declared owner of the land owns whatever is on the land or super imposed on it and not the trespasser. As of today, there is no case in Court again over the land. The Court cannot say the land should be shared with persons who themselves claimed not to be related to Isooso family and lost their bid in Court. Owoeye went to the land to paste public Notice informing the residents of the judgment and warning them not to deal with TERIBA and his group, he also held meetings with the Residents on the way forward. It is these actions which is against the interest of TERIBA and his group that has resulted in these present attempts by criminals to paint themselves as Saints to attract sympathy from those ignorant of the facts. Now that you know the truth, you will do well to advise the reporter to always hear the other side before jumping to conclusions and rushing to press.
