“Please Shoot Me, I Want To Die” —-Alleged Wife Killer Begs Police, Remanded At Panti.

Lekan Sonde, 57, who allegedly killed his wife in Egbeda area of Lagos State, was said too have been contemplating suicide, before he finally surrendered himself to the police in Monday.

The suspect also begged the police to shoot and kill him, stating that life was not worth living for him again.

According to Lagos Metro, the suspect was tracked to a hotel at the Ikeja GRA by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), before he finally decided to surrender himself to the police. The police also recovered his wife’s phone from him during a search on him.

It was further gathered that the suspect had planned committing the alleged crime before he escaped to Ondo State from where he was persuaded to return home to Lagos, by his friend.

The suspect, who was interrogated by the state commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni was later transferred to the homicide section of the Lagos State police command at the state CID, Panti

A source at the RRS told Lagos Metro that, “our men tracked him to a hotel in Ikeja GRA but we were careful not to allow him escape. We kept monitoring the movement of people in the area.”

He added that, “at that time our men continued to appeal to him to surrender himself to the police and the communication was monitored. At about past 12 on Monday, he came to our office with some of his friends and surrendered himself.”

Lekan, who was accused of killing his wife, Ronke was later taken to the state police command headquarters by the commander in charge of RRS, Olatunji Disu.

The state police commissioner, Fatai Owoseni spoke with the suspect for about three hours, before he was finally transferred to the State CID, Panti for further investigations.

There were also claims that the suspect was planning to escape to Ghana and the Republic of Benin, before he finally surrendered to the police.

The suspect was said to have sent about 70 text messages to some of his friends that he wanted to commit suicide.

Some of the text messages, read “I want to die, Please help,” ”I can’t face police or cell,” “You are the only one advising me not to kill myself, I will respect you till I die,” “I want to go to the Attorney General of Lagos State to surrender myself.”

Alleged Fraud: Court Grants Sirika, Daughter, Two Others N100m Bail Each

A Federal High Court located in Abuja has granted N100 million in bail to Hadi Sirika, a former Minister of Aviation, along with two other individuals and his daughter.

They are on trial for allegedly defrauding the N2.7 billion. The court orders them to submit two further sureties, both of whom must have acquired properties in Abuja.

The court ruled that the sureties had to be law-abiding citizens as well. A means affidavit must be deposed to by the sureties.

The accused were also prohibited by the court from leaving the country without authorization.

Justice Oriji ordered that the defendants should be remanded in prison custody if they failed to meet their bail conditions.

The sureties must own landed properties within the FCT with valid titles. The trial will commence on the 10th, 11th and 20th of June.

JUST IN: Former Aviation Minister, Sirika, Daughter Arrive Court Over N2.7bn Fraud Case [PHOTOS]

Hadi Sirika, Former Minister of Aviation, alongside his daughter, Fatima have arrived at the Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja where they will be arraigned for an alleged N2.7bn fraud in connection with the botched Nigerian Air project.

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has slammed six counts on the former minister, his daughter, and two others.

The anti-graft agency accused Sirika of conferring undue advantage on some entities between April 2022 and March 2023 in Abuja.

It added that that embattled minister abused his office by awarding consultancy N1.3bn contract for the Nigerian Air Start-up to Tianero  Nigeria Limited.

46-Yr-Old Man Nabbed For ‘Stealing’ Road Studs On Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) has confirmed the arrest of  one Friday Nwafor for vandalising and stealing road light indicators on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Jubril Gawat, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s senior special assistant on new media, stated in a post on his X page that the 46-year-old vandal was taken into custody on Tuesday.

Gawat stated that Nwafor was turned over to the police following his discovery of having taken off the road studs from the recently refurbished bridge.

“Officers of the Lagos State Neigbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) apprehended a road infrastructure vandal who was vandalizing the newly constructed 3rd Mainland Bridge road light indicators,” he wrote.

“The suspect was identified as Mr. Friday Nwafor, a 46-year-old male resident of Lagos, who was immediately taken into our custody and handed over to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade.”

Last month, the Lagos police command arrested four suspects for vandalising and stealing armoured cables.

In a post on his X handle, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson in Lagos, posted that the suspects were arrested along Oba Akran road.

Hundeyin said the vandalised armoured cables were installed by the state government for the smart city light-up Lagos project.
