The Delta State police command has arrested a man, Ame Edjeket, 41, for caging his wife in a room for four years and subjecting her to dehumanizing conditions.

The suspect allegedly impregnated her three times while she was in bondage at their home in the Orerokpe area of Delta State.

The husband, who has eight children with the victim, was said to have fed her with only bread throughout her time in bondage and she was not allowed to shower or use the restroom.

However, the bubble burst when some concerned citizens reported the matter to Behind Bars Defenders foundation which swiftly took up the matter.

The Director-General of the foundation, Harrison Gwamnishu, told newsmen that the suspect, who holds an OND, accused his wife of being behind his financial woes.

He subsequently locked her up and subjected her to dehumanizing conditions.

The activist told our correspondent that it remained curious how the victim was able to give birth to three babies while in bondage.

Gwamnishu said, “We got tagged via Facebook and we responded. Behind Bars, the intelligence team from the Warri office first visited Orerokpe and verified the story.

“She spent the last four years of her life locked up by her supposed husband. She was peeing and defecating in the same room where he fed her bread. Not the regular sweetened bread though. She gave the said man eight children, three of which she had while she was locked up by him in the Orerokpe community.

“The husband who is the primary suspect has been arrested and currently in police custody while she is in the hospital.”

Confirming the report to The PUNCH, the Police Public Relations Officer, Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said the suspect informed the police that his wife was mentally deranged and he had to keep her in such a condition because nobody was willing to help her.

The police spokesperson said, “The DPO said the man alleged that his wife had a mental problem and that she is a witch. He said he took her to her family but they rejected her. He said he equally took her to several herbalist homes but after some time, he had to take her back home.

“He said he was taking care of her with his little resources. The DPO said when the report came, he took her to the hospital and the man is with the police now but he cannot ascertain the amount of time she spent in that condition.”

The Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, has said that the youths who participated in the #EndSARS protest want to join the Nigeria Police Force.

The #EndSARS protest which occurred in October 2020 saw youths take to the streets across the country to demand an end to police brutality and bad governance.

Mohammed who spoke on Channels Television’s Newsnight on Monday said the same youths have shown interest in joining the Force.

He said, “The youths who participated in the #EndSARS and the rest of them, many of them want to join the police.

“Many of them will come and say, ‘Please, we want to join the police,’ because the service the police provide is a service of God.”

The IGP, however, pointed out that officers in the Force don’t have the required logistics needed to operate.

He said if they are given the same logistics as their foreign counterparts, they will perform better.

“If you put Nigerian police officers side by side with even police officers from advanced countries, give them the same logistics, you will see Nigeria police officers performing better than those that are coming from the so-called advanced countries,” he said.

“It is only in Nigeria that you have police officers that don’t have the required logistics that they need to operate, they struggle and make the society peaceful.

“When you take them out of the country to an international environment where those logistics that are required for you to do policing job are there, you will see them performing wonderfully well. That is why Nigerian police officers are claimed to be the best in the world.”

On hospitals requesting police reports before they attend to victims of gunshot wounds, Mohammed advised them to save lives first before any other thought.

“Save life first… lives must be saved first before thinking of any other thing to do…there is no issue of asking for any police report before you treat anybody with gunshot wounds,” he said.

The Kaduna Electric Distribution Company last Wednesday disconnected electricity supply to the home of late Alhaji Shehu Shagari, the Second Republic President of Nigeria, over unpaid bills estimated to be over N6m.

Occupants of the house, including late Shagari wives and relations, were saved from darkness, as the light was later reconnected the same day, following the intervention or a surety who promised to settle the bill.

A KAEDCO official at the Sokoto business office, who pleaded not to be named, informed our correspondent that the light was reconnected on a strong commitment to settle the outstanding bill by an anonymous surety. He, however, did not disclose the anonymous surety.

KAEDCO spokesman, Abdulaziz Abdullahi, who confirmed the disconnection of the late President home located on Sama Road, in Sokoto, said, “The bill has not been paid since the former president died in December 28, 2018, at the age of 93.

“The company has given enough grace for them to settle the bills before the disconnection.”

A family source disclosed that prior to Shagari’s death; the state government footed the electricity bills of the former leader.

However, a Sokoto State government official who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said, “You know the welfare of the late president’s family rests solely on the Federal Government, if the state government assists, it is just out of compassion and respect for the late President.”

‘It’s A Lie’!!! Pastor Faith Edeko Rubbishes Romance Tale With Apostle Johnson Suleman

Pastor Faith Edeko, the woman at the center of an adultery allegation, has cleared the air on the matter, rubbishing the claims by one Pastor Mike Davids that she is sleeping with the Senior Pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman.

Pastor Edeko, the pastor-in-charge of the ‘Home of Elevation’ branch of the OFM, Abuja, in a viral video following the publication of the story, denied she is having an affair with Apostle Suleman. Pastor Faith, in the video, said that the man who leveled the allegation is her former husband, as they have divorced after abandoning her for years, adding that Apostle Suleman is only her benefactor.

Taking a swipe at Pastor Davids for the accusation, Pastor Edeko declared:

“Mike you don’t deserve anything good in your life. This is the height you will tell the world and, of course, they will throw stones because that is the only thing a man will say to a woman after leaving her for years. This is the only thing you can say.

I know you drink but I don’t know it has gotten to this height. Just listen to yourself; a man who brought me up, my family knows him, he adopted me as His child, I stayed with him, even when I was not married, I was still single when I met him. And you confirmed it in your video, listen to yourself, Mike

Apostle Suleman will call me to a hotel and I will pass the night there but you didn’t bother because you knew I was a virgin; can you listen to yourself?

I kept my virginity for that long and you married me a virgin. I stayed with this man that long still as a virgin, and he didn’t deflower me. So, the best time to sleep with me was when I was married? You don’t deserve anything good in your life; thank God you told Nigerians you met me a virgin. What I didn’t do when I was single, I now started doing it when I was married? A woman who gave birth will still be bleeding after six months…

I was still at Osogbo after six months, then how did I transport myself to OFM Auchi. I am doing only this because of Mitchel and Apostle Suleman that you are dragging.”

Meanwhile, in an Instagram post-Monday afternoon, Apostle Suleman also reacted to the subject in a passing manner. He wrote: “IGP orders probe on me? Where, when? Maybe my ghost. Just reading stories now. Please discard. There is no such thing. Bad press really sells fast.
