BREAKING: FG Orders Closure Of Lagos, Abuja Airports 11pm Today

The federal government has ordered the two remaining international airports in Lagos and Abuja closed to all international flights, effective from 11pm on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, had on Friday, during a briefing of the State House Correspondents, hinted of an eventual closure of the two other international airports.

However, on Saturday afternoon, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Musa Nuhu, in a statement, announced the planned closure of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja.

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 had earlier on Friday announced the shutting the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and the Port-Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, starting from 12am on Saturday, March 21, 2020.

The statement, however, noted that emergency and essential flights are exempted from the restriction, adding also the all local flights would continue their normal schedules.

“Further to our earlier letter on restriction of international flights into Nigeria, we wish to inform you that effective Monday 23 rd March at 2300Z to 23rd April at 2300Z, Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos (DNMM) and Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport Abuja (DNAA) will be closed to all International flights.

“Emergency and essential fliqhts are exempted from this restriction.

“This is in addition to the closure of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano (DNKN), Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu (DNEN) and Port-Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa (DNPO) effective Saturday 21 March at 2300Z.

“Henceforth, all airports in Nigeria are closed to all incoming international flights with the exception of emergency and essential flights.

“Domestic flights will continue normal operations at all airports.

“All airlines are required to submit passenger manifest to Port Health Authorities prior to arrival of flights into Nigeria.Please be guided accordingly,” the statement said.

BREAKING: Report At The Station On Monday Or Risk Being Declared Wanted, Police Tell Naira Marley, JJC [STATEMENT ATTACHED]

The Police have asked music superstar Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley to report on Monday for interrogation for attending a party on Saturday hosted by Nollywood star Funke Akindele.

Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, hosted the party in honour of her husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz.

Naira Marley was one of the stars that attended the party in an Estate along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, which contravened the Government’s restriction order on COVID-19 pandemic.

While Akindele was arrested on Sunday after the video of the party went viral, the Police called on Naira Marley and JJC Skillz to give up themselves or risk being declared wanted.

Lagos Police spokesperson, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement on Sunday evening, said: “Funke Akindele was arrested. The investigation is ongoing, efforts are intensified to arrest the remaining persons in the video, among whom are Azeez Fashola a.k.a Naira Marley and Abdul Rasheed Bello a.k.a. JJC Skillz.

“They are in their best interests urged to report at the State CID Yaba on Monday 6th April 2020 or risk being declared wanted.”

The attention of Lagos State Police Command was drawn to a viral video showing a large number of persons mainly in the entertainment industry in an Estate, along Ajah, Ibeju-Lekki axis, Lagos celebrating a birthday party organized by Funke Akindele Bello and her husband. Police detectives from the State CID Yaba were promptly drafted to the location. Funke Akindele was arrested.

BREAKING: Police Arrest Funke Akindele Over House Party Held Amidst Lockdown

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Funke Akindele for hosting a party in contravention of the lockdown order in Lagos State, The PUNCH is reporting.

The Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, told newsmen that the actress had been taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba.

He said, “Yes, we have (arrested) Funke Akindele and we are looking for the others. She has been taken to SCID.”

It was learnt that policemen arrived in Amen Estate off Lekki-Epe Expressway in about three patrol vehicles.

Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, who is married to singer, Abdulrasheed Bello aka JJC Skillz, held a party in his honour on Saturday.

Singer, Azeez Fashola aka Naira Marley, also graced the party, which had over 20 others in attendance.

Thousands of Nigerians on social media called for the arrest Akindele, popularly called ‘Jenifa’.

The actress, who is said to be an ambassador for the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Dettol, has appeared in adverts calling on Nigerians to observe social distancing and hygiene.

She later apologized over the incident, saying most of those who attended the party were colleagues, who were living temporarily within the estate and could not return to their home states because of the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lagos Infection Diseases Regulations 2020 (the Regulations) prescribes a jail term of one month or N100,000 fine or both for persons found guilty of hosting gatherings or flouting the lockdown order.

It reads in part, “Where there is a violation of a close-down or stay at home order, security Agencies shall have the power to arrest without warrant and may detain any person who violates the closedown or stay at home order for at least forty-eight (48) hours.

“Where the arrested person is found guilty, the person is liable to a fine of one Hundred Thousand Nara fine (N100,000.00) or one (1) month imprisonment or three (3) months Community service.”

BREAKING: Lagos Discharges Five More Coronavirus Patients

The Lagos state government has discharged five more coronavirus patients.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos state, broke the news via Twitter on Sunday.

“Dear Lagosians, yesterday I announced the discharge of one more patient from our Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba. Today, I am happy to inform you that five more patients comprising two males and three females including a 10-year-old girl have tested negative twice to #COVID-19,” he tweeted.

“Although there is a strong indication that the State is winning the battle against COVID-19, it is imperative that we remain steadfast to curtail the spread. I strongly advise that we continue to observe #Social Distancing. Let us #StayHomeStaySafe to #SaveLives

“I want to also use this opportunity to advise Lagosians against stigmatizing the discharged patients. We need to do all we can to support them to get over the experience as soon as possible.

“Once again, I wish to thank our frontline health workers, members of the Lagos State Health Family and the Emergency Operation Centre for all their hard work. You all have been nothing short of amazing.”

A total of 29 COVID-19 patients have been discharged in the state which 115 of the 224 confirmed cases in Nigeria. The state has also recorded two deaths from the disease.
