Kwara PDP In Aggressive Door To Door Campaign To Reclaim Sarakis Dynasty

The ruling party in Kwara state, Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) was no doubt hit by the devastating result of the last week Saturday national assembly election where it lost all the three senatorial and six houses of representatives seats to the main opposition, the All Progressives Congress(APC)in the state.

The leadership of the party had quickly gone back to the drawing board to restrategize and cover up for the lost ground in the last poll.

It was reliably gathered that the political leaders known to be very close to the Senate president, Dr Bukola Saraki was said to be openly castigated by the good boys when they came to visit the leader in his lodge on the Sunday of the election to discuss the way forward.

While the political leaders looked in awe as they were rebuked, the good boys raised curses on them for causing the Senate president Dr Bukola Saraki the political misfortune by diverting to private use various resources, logistics and political appointments meant for the masses.

Recall that while the party members languished over the time overall manners of resources and appointments meant for them but diverted by their leaders, many fell prey to O To Ge merchants in the main opposition All Progressives Congress(APC) to swell their own ranks.

Further findings also revealed that instead of the usual fanfare campaigns they previously embarked upon, the party has now resorted to door to door aggressive campaign to woo more members ahead of this Saturday poll.

The party leaders across the state sources claimed are now directly reaching out to the traditional rulers, the artisans across the board and various political interest groups on the need to give Dr BukolaSaraki another chance to reclaim the political leadership of the state in this forthcoming poll.

The agents of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in this door to door campaign was said to have laid premium on the need not to bastardise the ilorin tradition and culture by conceding Kwara state to the alleged whims and caprices of the political rulership of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Copious examples of sad tales being currently experienced by people of Osun, Lagos Ekiti,Oyo, and Ondo states in the hands of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu are now said to be one of the major ideas being sold to the electorates for consideration to vote for Hon Razaq Atunwa, the PDP gubernatorial candidates and other members of the house of assembly in order to preserve the tradition and culture of ilorin and its emirates.

More importantly, campaigns for the daughter of Emir of ilorin. Princess Aishat Sulu Gambari candidate of Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Magaji Ngeri constituency in the state assembly was being seriously pursued to be supported to win at all cost in honour of the monarch.

Consequently, Magajis were allegedly sent from the palace to the electorates in the coverage areas to as a matter of priority to consider the interest of Emir of ilorin Alh Sulu Gambari.

Sources claimed that major stakeholders in Magaji Ngeri constituency were now said to be literarily being begged to forget their political party affiliations and consider honouring the emir of ilorin by voting for her daughter as a member in the state assembly.

Meantime on Tuesday Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in Kwara state of which Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) is a key player complained about non-usage of card readers in last presidential and National Assembly elections in the state to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin the state chairman of the CNPP, Alhaji Adebayo Lawal, said that 20 per cent of the 486,254 voters who voted during the last presidential and National Assembly elections in Kwara state were validated by card readers, adding that many of those who voted did so manually.

The CNPP, thus, said that only those verified and authenticated by card readers must be allowed to vote in the forthcoming governorship and state Assembly elections as stipulated in the electoral act.

APC Thugs Desecrated Our Palace Grounds, It Was A Political Mutiny — Edo PDP Alleges

Peter Okunoren

The National Vice Chairman, South-south of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Chairman, Edo State PDP Campaign Council for the 2020 gubernatorial election, Chief Dan Orbih, has described the attack on Governor Godwin Obaseki and leaders of the PDP in front of the palace of the revered Oba of Benin, on Saturday as a desecration of the palace grounds.

Chief Orbih, who addressed journalists in Benin City on Sunday, also said that, “The attack was a political mutiny, as All Progressives Congress (APC)’s sponsors attempted to eliminate the entire leadership of the PDP and all democratically elected governors of PDP that were expected to be with the governor.”

He explained: “The visit was officially communicated to the Palace and the various security agencies as PDP leaders’ visit that included the party’s National Chairman, members of the National Working Committee (NWC), Governors of Rivers, Sokoto and Delta States, and of course the host, Governor Godwin Obaseki.”

Read his official statement below:

The unfortunate incident that took place yesterday in the course of the official visit of the Governor and members of the PDP National campaign Council to the Palace of our Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II Ogidigan.

I want to place it on record that the visit was officially communicated to the Palace and the various security agencies as PDP leaders visit that included the party’s National Chairman, members of the National working committee, Governors of Rivers, Sokoto, Delta, and of course the host Governor Godwin Obaseki.

1. I want to place it on record that there was no official APC event in the Palace or anywhere in Benin that was so communicated in accordance with INEC guidelines.

2.There was no official communication to the security agencies and the palace that APC was also going to have event at the palace.

3. The invasion of the Palace Gate by armed APC Youths was a well co-ordinated assault by the leadership and Sponsors of Edo APC to eliminate the National leadership of the PDP and all democratically elected Governors of PDP that were expected to be with the Governor.

This action to my mind was aimed at throwing the country into crisis. The security breach must be investigated and all those connected with it must be arrested and tried in accordance with the laws.

The APC organised attack at the Palace is in our view a political mutiny, against constituted authority, capable of causing interstate conflict and war between Edo state and the affected states of the Governors that were marked down for elimination.

There have been several videos in the cyberspace where these thugs have been instructed, directed and motivated to intimidate and cause chaos and mayhem in the state.

The security agencies must swing into action to bring all those connected with the incident to book.

Choosing the Palace to unleash their evil plans is an abomination and a total disrespect to our Royal majesty and highly respected traditional institution.

We condemn the attack and wanton destruction of PDP members vehicles and property by these hooligans in broad day light in the vicinity of the Palace of our revered Oba.

I commend the leaders and members of EDO State PDP and supporters for their maturity yesterday. Who restrained themselves from retaliation in the face of unwarranted attacks and hostilities.

I want to assure them that the party will not fold its hands and watch members attacked and killed because of their support for Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Signed

Chief Dan Osi Orbih

PDP Will Defeat Akeredolu In Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede Boasts

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) on Thursday promised to lead the party to victory in the October 10 poll.

He told reporters in Akure, the state capital, shortly after picking the ticket, that the days of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) in the Alagbaka Government House were numbered.

Jegede said: “With this outcome, we have served notice on the APC. Their end has come. We will take over the government of Ondo State come October 10, 2020”.

But, Akeredolu, who defeated the PDP standard-bearer in the 2016 election, said there is no vacancy in the State House, adding that Jegede was under an illusion.

Akeredolu, who spoke through his Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, maintained that Jegede’s wishful thoughts were illusory permissible in politics.

He added: “This is more so that the euphoria of his victory over certain entrenched principalities was capable of igniting an outburst. But our message to Jegede is that he should beware of the ides of figure 888. It’s symbolic and too dangerous to ignore.”

The ruling and opposition parties confirmed fence-mending within their chapters yesterday as part of preparations for the election.

Akeredolu and Jegede have also commenced consultations on the choice of running mates. Both of them, according to sources may pick their running mates from the South Senatorial District.

According to a source, Jegede is under pressure to pick Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi as his running mate.

Ajayi who dumped APC for the PDP last month came second in the PDP primary. He polled 657 votes, trailing Jegede who polled 888 votes.

Sources said Jegede is yet to open talks with Ajayi, although some PDP chieftains have been mounting pressure on him to pick Ajayi due to his ability to gather such votes within one month of joining the party.

The source said Jegede is putting off the pressure on grounds that he needed a running mate he could trust.

According to the source, “some PDP national leaders, including a governor from the Northwest have been talking to Jegede on the need to pick Ajayi as his running mate.

“They stressed that apart from the fact that Ajayi is a grassroots mobilizer, Jegede needs a running mate that can match whoever is picked by the APC as Akeredolu’s running mate from the southern senatorial district.

“But Jegede reportedly told them that it would be difficult for him to accept their offer because he does not want someone who would be working behind to oust him from office if he eventually becomes a governor.”

Ajayi and other aspirants have accepted the defeat and promised to work for Jegede’s victory.

Ajayi, in a statement, thanked the people for standing with the PDP ‘in the struggle to liberate the state’.

He said: “We remain undaunted and resolute about our commitment to a people-oriented government against personalized democracy. “We wish the good people of Ondo State and the winner the best as we march on. For us, life goes on.”

Also, Eddy Olafeso who got 175 votes, said he was ready to support Jegede if he (Jegede) was willing to seek his cooperation.

He said: “Our support to Jegede is not going to be blanket support. He will have to tell us what is the need for us. If our candidate is willing to seek our cooperation, then, at a very formal and informal level, we will have to talk. Most of what needed to be done rest with him.”

An APC aspirant, Dr. Nathaniel Adojutelegan has rejected the outcome of the primary that produced Akeredolu.

In his two-page petition to the APC national secretariat, Adojutelegan alleged that the primary fell short of the party’s constitution and the electoral laws.

He said: “The electoral college of delegates that voted in the governorship primary election was not democratically elected by members of the party from their various wards, contrary to the provisions of Article 20 of the Constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The electoral college of delegates that voted in the governorship primary election was selected during the 2018 Congresses and not democratically elected by members of the party from their various wards, contrary to the provisions of Article 20 of the.”

The petitioner also referred the appeal committee to a pending suit against the selection of the members of the executive committees at the ward, local government, and state levels.

Adojutelegan also complained that “the mode of the primary was disclosed on Friday, 17 July, few days to the date of the primary, contrary to the guidelines.

“The delegates list was disclosed to the aspirants on 19 July 2020, few hours to the commencement of the governorship primary election contrary to the Guidelines, Rules, and Regulations of the APC.”

He alleged that “there were no polling booths. Tables were placed together, and voters were directed to vote at the same time on the same table. Thereby making them vote under duress and enabling them to confirm and verify how they voted in the election.

“The voters were permitted to use their mobile phones to take photographs of the ballot papers enabling them to confirm and verify how they voted in the election.

“The voters openly displayed their ballot papers enabling them to confirm and verify how they voted in the election.

“The voters were assembled closely together in a single line to drop their ballot papers in the ballot boxes enabling them to confirm and verify how they voted in the election.

He also alleged that Akeredolu and his agents propagated and spread false information about him on Twitter, Facebook, and Ondo State Radiovision Corporation that he had stepped down.

He said: “This premeditated act affected my fortunes in the election thereby causing the delegates that supported me to vote for the governor.”

The petitioner then prayed the appeal committee to declare the primary of 20 July 2020 Ondo State Governorship null and void, and cancel the result.

But, former Kebbi State Governor Muhammad Adamu Aliero called for unity, urging the Ondo State APC family to work for victory. He said it is important that APC should retain the state.

He spoke with reporters after the Ondo State APC Governorship Reconciliation Committee meeting at the party’s national secretariat on Thursday in Abuja.

The former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, who is a member of the committee, said efforts to pacify aggrieved chieftains will yield positive results.

Aliero said: “The governor has already emerged the winner, what is important is to carry everybody along to ensure victory for our party. We will do whatever that is possible to win the election in Ondo state. It is very critical to us.

“We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that we win that election.

“Already, we have gone to Ondo State in our effort for reconciliation and we spent a whole day there talking to aspirants and stakeholders and members of the state assembly.

“We are going to continue with the reconciliation. On Friday (tomorrow), we are going to invite members of the National Assembly representing Ondo to discuss how they will assist to ensure that we will win the election.
