After five days of intense battle in the zonal elimination series with 26 qualifiers competing for honours in eight zones and 10 centres, the quarterfinalists for the 2019 Delta State Principals Cup emerged at the weekend.

The Principals Cup football competition is a developmental tournament sponsored by Zenith after the partnership agreement with the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration. The bond revived the event only two years ago after being in limbo for over 27 years.

The quarterfinalists are Comprehensive Secondary School, Owa Model Secondary School, Boys Secondary School, Orhuwhorun Secondary School, Obule Intergrated Secondary School , Sapele , Solid Rock Foundation School, Ewghewu Government School and Ekpan Secondary School.

The quarterfinals will be decided today in four different centres and according to the pairing released by the organizing team, Comprehensive Secondary School and Owa Model Secondary School will clash at the Kwale Township Stadium while Boys Secondary School will tango with Orhuwhorun Secondary School at the Oleh Township Stadium.

At the Warri Township Stadium, Obule Integrated School and Solid Rock secondary School will compete for honours just as Otujeremi Township Stadium will host the last pairings between Uwheru Government School and Ekpan Secondary School.

Head of the organizing team, Tony Pemu, said all matches would start simultaneously at 2pm at the four centres.

Pemu said: “We are all set for the quarterfinals and we are excited that the standard is getting higher everyday. The dates and venues for the semis and final games will be determined soon after the meeting of the Main Organising Committee for the competition”.

Ighalo May Leave Manchester United This Week

Odion Ighalo looks set to leave Manchester United at the end of his loan spell this week, with parent club Shanghai Shenhua keen to have the striker back ahead of the start of the Chinese Super League season.

Ighalo has been a hit at Old Trafford since signing a loan deal on the final day of the January transfer window, scoring four times for his boyhood club.

But his loan spell looks set to end after eight appearances, with his initial deal only penned until May 31. United’s season will now extend well beyond that as a result of the coronavirus pandemic that has caused a suspension to the campaign, with United not playing since their 5-0 demolition of LASK Linz on March 12.

United still has nine Premier League games to play and remain in the Europa League and the FA Cup. They are keen to keep Ighalo until the end of this season and have held discussions with Shanghai Shenhua about extending the loan deal.

However, the Chinese authorities are now hopeful of beginning the Chinese Super League season in late June or early July, and as a result his club is keen to have the 30-year-old striker back in the fold.

The initial loan came at a time when the CSL season was yet to begin and China was the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the country is now reporting far fewer cases and there is confidence the 2020 campaign could get underway within the next six weeks.

Mourinho Launches Bid For £75m Victor Osimhen

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has launched a bid that could beat Chelsea to the signing of Victor Osimhen.

The Blues are on the hunt for a new striker to help Tammy Abraham shoulder the goalscoring burden at Stamford Bridge, with Osimhen identified as a potential summer target.

The Nigerian is under contract until 2024 but is wanted by a host of European clubs after 18 goals and six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

Chelsea had supposedly been leading the race for Osimhen, and earlier this month French outlet Telefoot claimed an unknown club had submitted an €85 million (£75 million) bid for the 21-year-old.

It has been suggested that this club was Chelsea, while Sky Sports have previously reported that two Premier League clubs and a La Liga side had all tabled bids for Osimhen.

It is widely believed that while Frank Lampard is searching for attacking reinforcements, Osimhen is not top of the Blues boss’ transfer wishlist.

The frontman has just one year of experience in Ligue 1, having arrived from Charleroi for just £10 million-plus a further £2.5 million in add-ons last summer.

The 23-year-old is under contract until 2023 and has 22 goals in 42 appearances this season, dramatically inflating his valuation.

Chelsea had previously identified Lyon frontman Moussa Dembele as their priority attacking target this summer, although the Frenchman will not come cheap.
