Ex-Chief Of Defence Staff, Alex Badeh Shot Dead [GRAPHIC PHOTOS]

A former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has been shot dead.

According to Television Continental, Badeh, who is standing trial over allegations of corruption, was killed by unknown gunmen in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Air Force, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, confirmed this on Tuesday night.

According to him, the former Defence Chief died from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while he was returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.

The Air Force spokesperson also confirmed the incident in a series of tweets.

He said, “It is with a heavy heart that I regretfully announce the unfortunate demise of former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, who died today, 18 Dec 18, from gunshot wounds sustained when his vehicle was attacked while returning from his farm along Abuja-Keffi Road.”

“On behalf officers, airmen and airwomen of the Nigerian Air Force, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar, commiserates with the family of the late former Chief of Defence Staff over this irreparable loss. We pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest.”

Dapo Abiodun, Ogun state governor, says the lockdown of the state as directed by President Muhammadu Buhari would commence on Friday.

Buhari had ordered a lockdown in Lagos, Ogun and the federal capital territory (FCT) from 11pm on Monday.

However, while speaking at a press conference during the inauguration of the isolation centre in Ikenne, Abiodun said in Ogun, the lockdown would be effective from 11pm on Friday.

He said he appealed to the president to shift the movement restriction in the state so that there would be enough time to adequately supply food to the people.

“I have been in consultation with the presidency and I have requested that he graciously allow us in Ogun state to prepare for this lockdown in terms of ensuring that we have enough food banks across the three senatorial districts so that people would have enough food supply,” the governor said.

He said the president “graciously” accepted.

Abiodun appealed to the people to abide by the observe social distancing and practice good hygiene as advised by the ministry of health.

Nigeria has recorded another Coronavirus death.

Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, made the disclosure at a media briefing on Monday.

“As of today, we have recorded 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

“Till date, 8 persons have been discharged after successful treatment.

“But sadly, another fatality was recorded over the weekend,” he said.

The three fatalities include one American who died in Ekiti State.

The global pandemic has killed over 32,000 worldwide.
