‘Style By Zenith’ Debuts In Lagos [PHOTOS]

Zenith Bank Plc is set to light up the social and entertainment scene this December with the launch of “Style by Zenith”.

“Style by Zenith”, a flagship Lifestyle, Beauty, Fashion, Accessories and Entertainment fair, powered by Zenith bank in conjunction with Fashion One, a foremost international lifestyle and entertainment company, would hold in Lagos on Saturday, December 29 and Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Open Ground by Four Points Hotel, Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The two-day fair is a potpourri ofLifestyle activities featuring runway modelling by leading Nigerian and international models accessorized by top designers, beauticians, beauty and lifestyle products manufacturers, accessory makers, food and confectionary, entertainment for adults and children as well as performances by top Nigerian artistes, amongst other activities.

Speaking on the launch of the platform, the General Manager of Zenith Bank Plc. and Coordinator of the event, Mrs. Adobi Nwapa, noted that: “‘Style by Zenith’ is a unique platform through which the bank will connect with and create value for its customers by focusing on various aspects of their lifestyle. Entertainers Promoting Abuse Of Women’s Bodies, Frustrating Government’s Efforts — FG

The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Pauline Tallen, has accused entertainers of frustrating the government’s efforts at curbing the violation of women by promoting vulgar lyrics and using female dancers in a most disdainful manner.

Tallen said this while delivering her speech at the launch of the State of the World Population 2021’ report in Abuja on Tuesday.

Speaking on the theme, ‘My Body is My Own: Claiming the Right to Autonomy and Self-Determination,’ the minister said the Federal Government was working hard to tackle fear and stigma of survivors of violence, weak community, and facility referral systems, lack of counseling services for women and girls and the communities as well as seek justice for victims.

She, however, argued that entertainers were frustrating the government’s plans.

Tallen added, “It is almost disheartening to note that while we are confronting these obstacles to increase advocacy, the entertainment industry which has large followership of young minds, continues to indirectly support the abuse of the female body as a sex object through vulgar lyrics and employment of female dancers in compromising customs.

“This is indeed unacceptable. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to producers and writers to support us so that together we can ensure that Nigerian society is able to guarantee an environment where girls and women are able to make choices about their bodies without the fear of violence or having someone else decide for them.”

The minister promised that the government would continue to provide an enabling environment for the state and non-state actors in the eradication of violence and abuse of women.

Tallen said the ministry would continue to work with relevant partners to build on all ongoing measures aimed at eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls.

“This is why we are calling on all the remaining 12 states to domesticate the Child Rights Act of 2003 and the 18 states yet to domesticate the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015 to immediately do so,” Tallen said.

Earlier in her remarks, the UNFPA Representative in Nigeria, Ms. Ulla Muella, said only 46 percent of married women in Nigeria are able to make decisions freely on their sexual and reproductive health.

She added, “In Nigeria, among married women between the ages of 15 to 49, 46 percent are able to make decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health and rights.”

JUST IN: Nollywood Star Ify Onwuemene Dies Of Cancer

Nollywood star, Ify Onwuemene, famed for her role in the popular sitcom ‘Everyday People’, has died of cancer.

It was gathered that the actress, who died on Tuesday, had been battling endometrial cancer.

Her colleague in the film industry, Gloria Anozie-Young, broke the news of her death via her Facebook page.

Giving details about the death of the actress, Anozie-Young wrote, “With a deep sense of loss but total submission to God Almighty, we regret to announce that IFEY ONWUEMENE has gone to be with the Lord.

“IFEY ONWUEME was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Her womb was removed, but she has been battling the ailment for many years now.

“In 2019, even after eight sessions of chemotherapy, the doctors told her she had reached stage 4. However, we are not sure if she was given the wrong diagnosis or being treated with the wrong chemo, because she still felt pains on her upper abdomen and her tummy bloated.

“Ify spent more than N10m, being helped with donations by her fellow actors and other Nigerians. A GoFundme account was opened for her, but it did not yield much. She had to go for draining every two weeks at a cost of N280,000, but only 3 liters of liquid can be removed at a time so that her heart is not affected.

“IFEY has finally gone to rest, today 25th May 2021. May her soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Anozie-Young stated that burial arrangements would be released by the family of the deceased.

Popular Filmmaker, Dotun Taylor, To Produce Docu-drama On Diasporan Blacks

Popular filmmaker and cultural ambassador, Dotun Taylor, has finalized plans to produce a docu-drama titled, ‘Did You Sell Us’. Taylor disclosed that the production is centered on millions of blacks in the Diaspora that are desirous of tracing their roots and heritage but without any institutional support or proper lead.

He added that the idea derives from the contentious historical theory that there were Africans that colluded with foreign slave trade merchants during the slave trade era in Africa. According to him, “It is high time that we as Africans rose to help our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora many of whom have lost their identities and origin due to no fault of theirs. This has been a part of my mission as a cultural ambassador. They are in millions.

We need to find and link up with them.

The documentary is a partnership between Taylor’s Roots and Heritage Renaissance Initiative (RHRI), and two American entrepreneurs, Gena Hampton and TaShunda Scott. “I will be leading my two Black American partners to Nigeria and, particularly, to the cradle of mankind, the palace of the Ooni of Ife, HRM Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, on a fact-finding mission as part of production activities for this project. To my African brothers and sisters across the globe who are in this dilemma, I say, help is on the way.”

Hampton, a professional business consultant, and American radio broadcaster said, “I am more than happy to be working with Ambassador Taylor on this very insightful and humanitarian project. Everyone deserves to know their identity, their true origin irrespective of wherever they live and work or find themselves across the world. I am so passionate about this and I will do everything within my capacity for the actualization of this fantastic project.”

Similarly, TaShunda Scott, a public service expert in the city of Texas, USA, said, “For me, this is just one of the reasons for our existence, to be our brother’s keeper. This project will help the millions of Africans in the Diaspora who can’t trace their origin. African governments need to do more in tracing and identifying their citizens scattered across the world and they should also support initiatives like this.”

Thus, he tasked the Hon. Abike Dabiri-led Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and other similar commissions and agencies across the African continent to do more in tracing and identifying Nigerians and Africans at large in the Diaspora that are eager to trace their origin.

Appointed a cultural ambassador by the Ooni of Ife for his passion and commitment to the elevation of Yoruba culture and tradition some years ago, Taylor announced that the revered monarch will play a key role in actualizing the project because of his advocacy for unity among blacks across the world.

Indeed, as part of his efforts to foster peace among Africans in the Diaspora and reunite the descendants of the Yoruba race, the Ooni, on a visit to Bahia, in Brazil, pronounced the city the headquarters of Yoruba Nation in the Americas.

Taylor and his partners would be chaperoned to the Ooni’s palace by his co-ambassador, Morounranti Ashabi Alebiosu, a cultural enthusiast and former Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State on Tourism and Inter-Governmental Relations. Also an accomplished broadcaster, baritone-voiced Taylor has lent his voice to hundreds of movies, reality shows, radio programmes, jingles, and documentaries e.t.c. He is also the brain behind many contemporary music videos.
