Nigeria’s popular gospel singer, Yinka Ayefele is set to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the ghastly auto accident that changed his life forever.

The musician, in a statement, said he will be remembering with a sense of gratitude to God the accident that caused his been confined to a wheelchair but fortunately spared his life.

In appreciation of God’s mercy, the crooner has concluded plans to commemorate the two decades of the accident with a week-long series of activity traversing two states of Oyo and Ekiti starting from December 12 and climax on December 17.

As part of the activities lined up, on Tuesday, December 12, Ayefele and his friends will be in his hometown of Ipoti, Ekiti State, to commission a multi-million naira hall he will be donating to his alma mater, Ipoti High School.

Also on that day, the musician, through his Yinka Ayefele Foundation, will be putting smile on the faces of 100 women of Ipoti stock by empowering them with various cash gift.

Same week, Ayefele and his team will be visiting various orphanages, old people’s homes and hospitals, particularly, the University College Hospital, UCH in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, where he will present buses, cash gift and food items to the less privileged in the homes and patients in the hospital.

The climax of the anniversary comes on Sunday December 17 with a thanksgiving service, launching of the 20th year remembrance album and public presentation of his first book titled “You and Your Spine”. The event will hold at the Music House, Challenge, Ibadan.

Ayefele, on December 12, 1997 was involved in a ghastly motor accident along Ibadan –Abeokuta Road, the tragic event that later became a watershed that transformed his life from a mere studio hand to a music superstar. This life changing event has been the motivation for many powerful and inspirational album releases.

He is also a recipient of over 200 awards including Member of the Order of the Niger, MON, a recognition bestowed on him by former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Speaking on the significance of the week-long event, Ayefele said he believes the incident, though a sad one, was what transformed his life and he has to reach out to people in order to appreciate God’s magnanimity in his life over the last two decades.

With just 25 days left to the premiere the much-anticipated movie ‘Dear affy’, Movie director, Samuel Olatunji is popularly known as ‘Bigsam’ has unveiled new character posters for the casts of the movie ‘Dear Affy’.’

The new posters which he described as ‘‘bedazzling and captivating in unique ways’’ were revealed through the ‘Dear Affy’s Instagram page on Tuesday, 21st of January 2020 and will immediately subsequently be up on all other social media platforms online.

Much to the excitement of fans and well-wishers of ‘dear affy”, the new posters will feature prominent casts and stars of the movie like the talented musician and entertainer, Teni entertainer, who recently received the award for the best new artist. The ‘billionaire song” crooner plays the role of ‘little angel’ in the movie, ‘dear affy’ much to the delight of her fans and supporters.

Also, the new posters feature famous classy acts like Toyin Abraham who recently got married last year to fellow actor Kola Ajeyemi. The ‘Alakada’ diva plays the role of ‘Temi the blogger’. Also featuring in the new posters is famed comedian and actor, Odunlade Adekola who plays the role of ‘Capo skillachi’.

Bigsam also added “The movie ‘dear affy’ is gradually shaping up to be one of the biggest movies of the year in the movie industry and I am proud of all movie casts and how they interpreted their various roles and as for these new posters, they are extremely pleasurable to the eyes and I expect everyone to be as thrilled and excited as I am about these posters! Other exciting acts in the newly unveiled character posters include Bimbo Ademoye who plays the role of ‘Tochi’, Enyinna Nwigwe who plays the role of ‘Michael’ and is also one of the lead characters in the movie. Also, Kehinde Bankole who holds the major role features in the posters as ‘affy’

The movie will premiere on the 9th of February,2020 and will hit the cinemas and silver screens on the 14th of February 2020

The story revolves around the life of three aspiring female Lagos socialites and their journey to ‘big girl’ status.

Alaafin To Kwam 1: You Can No Longer Prostrate For Kings Who Club, Drink In Public Places, Smokes; They Don’t Deserve Respect

Yoruba kings and chiefs who indulge in clubbing, smoking, drinking and other untoward behaviour are not worthy of honour and any respect, says the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.

Oba Adeyemi spoke in Oyo town on Monday during the installation of Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, as the Mayegun of Yorubaland.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), was represented by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, at the event. The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, were also present on the occasion. Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was represented by Babafemi Ojudu.

Responding to reports in social media credited to him as saying that after Wasiu’s coronation, he was not expected to prostrate before some kings in the land, the Alaafin said, “I did not mean that he should disrespect the royal fathers.

“He understands the culture and I am not saying that he should disrespect the culture. But kings who go about clubbing and drinking do not deserve any respect.”

Turning to Wasiu, the monarch said, “Accord deserving honour and respect to kings; they are custodians of culture. But there are kings that are not worthy of honour and respect.”

On why the musician was chosen for the title, the oba said it was time Yoruba people honoured those who had distinguished themselves in their callings.

He said gone were the days when Yoruba people were silent about the exploits of their own while they were being honoured in other areas.

He made reference to the likes of IK Dairo and Haruna Ishola who died without being properly honoured.

Oba Adeyemi said, “As we all know, there are three tiers of government. We have the executive, the judiciary and the legislature. The media is regarded as the fourth estate of the realm, and musicians are a vital part of the media.

“Through music, some of them criticised the government’s excesses. A king who wants progress for his people should listen to good words of music that are deliberately picked to correct societal problems. I looked around and acknowledged the efforts of some of our musicians who are not just singing for the sake of it.

“For a long time, I have been documenting some of the works of our good musicians in Yorubaland. IK Dairo of blessed memory was honoured in the United Kingdom many years ago. Then, Sunny Ade was discovered. They called him King of Juju music. What we have done is to discover our own talents. The music of Wasiu is philosophical. It is time we honoured our own.

“I did not mean that Wasiu will not respect our culture after being installed. He will honour our kings but will not prostrate before kings who are ignoble. A king should not be drinking (alcohol) at clubs and in public places, and a king should not smoke.

“We have been on the issue of the Mayegun for the past 11 years. Today, the Mayegun has been installed. His duty is to ensure that things go well and right and excesses should be addressed.

Wasiu said his installation meant additional responsibility for him.

He said, “I give thanks to God Almighty for deeming me fit. I thank Kabiyesi Alaafin and all our royal fathers for supporting me on this occasion. The responsibility that I am given is about the unity of Yoruba.

“The music part of me is on one side while the Mayegun part of me is on another. Henceforth, I stand for the interest of the Yoruba nation.

“Eleven years ago when Kabiyesi first muted the idea of installing me, he sent me back midway apparently so that I could go for more tutelage. He sent me to learn about more life. I am better off today. I stand before everybody today and assure you of my readiness to play my role diligently.”
