A Pediatrician based in Abuja, Mr Chibuzor Eze has threatened to divorce his wife of so many years for her addiction to popular foreign soap operas, Telemundo and Zeeworld.

He said, “I will divorce my wife if she doesn’t stop with this Zeeworld and Telemundo obsession.

“I told her last week that I was fed up with how her obsession with these channels was making her to neglect her duty as a wife and mother.

Yet she keeps watching these shows when she’s supposed to be partaking in more important things like taking care of the children and cooking reasonable food for us.”

Eze, who works with a government hospital, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday that he had already informed his wife, Dorothy that her obsession to the soaps was interfering with her marital life.

The pediatrician said he had to buy food from restaurants some times, as his wife had either forgotten to get what the family would eat ready or burnt the food she was preparing because of Telemundo.

“Tell me, is this not enough to sue for divorce. As a doctor, I have a very hectic job and should come home to eat something and relax.

I have purchased foods from restaurants four times in the last week, because I came home to an empty pot or burnt food and this is unacceptable.” he insisted.

He continued, “This is after I talked and complained to her about the effect Zee world and Telemundo are having on her.

On Tuesday, she forgot to pick our 10-year-old daughter from school because she was watching her shows.

“If these careless acts continue, I will be forced to leave her, because I won’t appreciate coming home to a burnt down house one day .’’

In a bid to control noise pollution, the Lagos State Government has said it will not hesitate to close down any mosque, church, night clubs and others, which constitute an environmental nuisance.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tunji Bello, in a statement, yesterday stated that the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) had been mandated to apply the full weight of the law.

He said the action became imperative because his office had been inundated with complaints and petitions from many residents and associations all over the state about the noise levels of many of the leisure centres and religious homes.

Bello, who added that on a continuous basis, LASEPA officials will be going around religious centres, homes and others, warned that anyone found to have exceeded the allowed level of sound output will be closed down and the appropriate sanctions applied.

The commissioner also lamented that his office had also discovered many leisure centres/religious homes that contravened, after being reopened by the government, usually go back to the same noise pollution for which they were earlier axed,

While disclosing that resident associations have been involved in the control of noise pollution in the state, he added that any shut centre, will not be reopened without a letter of guarantee from the residents association of such an area.

He advised religious and leisure centres to procure soundproof equipment which would lessen the sound that emanates from them.

Bello said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will not allow any business concern to put the well being of residents at peril for whatever reason.
