UPDATE: We Arrested Bobrisky After Refusing To Honour Invitation To Name Officials He Allegedly Bribed — EFCC

Published

on

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified the circumstances leading to the arrest of controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as “Bobrisky.”

It was earlier reported that Bobrisky was detained on Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

He was reportedly detained while attempting to leave Nigeria for London amid allegations of bribery. Following his detention, he was transferred from Lagos to Abuja for further questioning.

In a phone conversation (with SaharaReporters) on Friday morning, EFCC spokesperson Mr. Dele Oyewale explained that Bobrisky’s arrest was due to his failure to respond to an invitation sent by the Commission.

The EFCC representative stated that the crossdresser’s arrest was connected to the bribery allegations against him.

“We arrested him last night and we took him to Abuja because our team investigators are in Abuja,” the EFCC spokesman said.

He continued: “He was trying to run away from mentioning those he said collected bribe from him. We have sent him invitation but he refused to honour our invitation and he was trying to leave the country.

“This was why we arrested him. We want him to come and mention the names of the official involved in the bribery but he has not shown up.”

When asked (by SaharaReporters) whether Bobrisky would face bribery charges from the EFCC, Mr. Oyewale stated he currently had no further information regarding potential charges.

In October, it was reported that Bobrisky had been detained while attempting to flee to the Benin Republic.

Reports indicated that Bobrisky was arrested by the Customs Service at the Seme-Nigerian border during a passport check, just hours before he was scheduled to appear before a Senate panel of inquiry regarding the allegations against him.

Dangote’s Fuel Price Higher Than Other Sources, We Have To Pity Nigerians — IPMAN

Published

on

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has expressed concerns about the pricing of fuel from the Dangote Refinery. According to IPMAN, the price of fuel from the refinery was higher than that of other sources as of last week.

Yakubu Suleiman, National Assistant Secretary of IPMAN, explained that marketers are compelled to prioritize lower-priced options to ensure profitability. He emphasized the need for transparency in pricing, particularly from Dangote Refinery.

Suleiman highlighted the influence of international pricing on domestic fuel prices and urged Dangote Refinery to disclose its specific selling price to provide clarity to the market.

He said: “Prices are determined by international pricing. Dangote is supposed to be saying like every day, ‘This is the price I’m going to sell this product’.

“But he cannot be able to do that unless he (Dangote) engages the stakeholders. And you cannot just say okay, we must only buy in his own depot.

“IPMAN cannot just sit down and say ‘We will tell our members, all of you go to Dangote Refinery and buy your product and load’. We cannot just do that. This is a deregulated system.

“We have to source where products are much cheaper. Then we would inform our members to go and load product in any depot that the product is cheaper.

“If Dangote has a product and is selling N1000, let’s assume, and there are other places that are selling N900. We can’t just say because for the sake we are doing business with Dangote, ‘Okay go and do it’. It’s not profitable to us.

“We must go where the price is lower; where we get profit. That is it.”

Continuing, the IPMAN scribe added, “We are in a deregulated economy but Dangote is like trying to monopolize the whole issue. Fine. Let us know if there is monopoly in the whole system.

“But we believe that it’s now deregulation. Like last week, Dangote’s price is higher than other places. Because if you can go by the price, the international price, crude has already started coming down.

“If I could remember, as of last week, he gave N995 per litre, and you have to bring your cargo and load. How much will you pay the cargo? How much will be the other charges to your depot? And how much will go to the depot?

“And we expect independent marketers to go and sell it. Can we go and sell? Look at we have to pity Nigerians.”

Presiding Judge Obiora Egwuatu stipulated that each defendant must present two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a civil servant of grade level 15 or higher with a verifiable address within the court’s jurisdiction, while the other must be a parent of the defendant.

The court had set Friday for the arraignment of 76 defendants, the majority of whom are minors.

As proceedings began, the children, appearing ill and malnourished, were asked to come forward to enter their pleas. Due to limited space, some huddled in the dock, while others stood outside.

During the session, four minors collapsed and writhed in pain, prompting the judge to adjourn briefly until order was restored.

Upon resuming, the prosecution requested that the names of the four unwell children be withdrawn from the charge.

The remaining defendants were arraigned and entered pleas of not guilty.

The 76 individuals, arrested across Abuja, Kaduna, Gombe, Jos, Katsina, and Kano states, face charges including treason.
