The authorities of the Lagos State Police Command have declared one Mustapha Adekunle aka Seigo wanted for attempting to disrupt the APC rally held at Skypower Ground, Ikeja, on January 8, 2019.

The said Mustapha Adekunle aka Seigo, an NURTW chieftain, came to the rally with a group of people and were identified at the entrance as supporters of the party .

However, at the tail end of the event, Seigo and his group for a reason yet to be determined, violently engaged other supporters of the party. In the ensuing melee, one MC Oluomo, another NURTW chieftain, was stabbed and was rushed to EKO Hospital where he is currently recuperating while two other victims of the attack were taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for treatment. The crisis was quickly contained by policemen at the venue.

It will be recalled that a few hours before the rally started, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, held a meeting with the leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ), ROAD TRANSPORT EMPLOYERS ASSOCIATION and other affiliate groups where all the parties agreed to eschew violence before, during and after the electioneering. It was therefore surprising that a prominent member of NURTW would attempt to violently disrupt a peaceful political rally.

In view of the development, the Command wishes to encourage members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of Mustapha Adekunle popularly known as Seigo to report such at a nearest police station.

Meanwhile, two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

26- year- old Joseph Odey, on Wednesday, threatened to commit suicide over the alleged refusal of the Cross River State Government to pay his father’s gratuity.

Odey, who protested by himself at the Governor’s office in Calabar, said the suffering of his family was driving him into depression.

He told reporters that his late father, Mr. Anthony Odey, who served the state for 32 years, died three years to his retirement as the Principal of Government Secondary School, Ebo in Yala.

According to him: “I am at the Governor’s office today to bring attention to the non-payment of my late father’s benefits and gratuity after he had put in 32 years of faithful service to the state and died as a school principal a few months before he was due for retirement.

“The weight, pain, and suffering of my family are getting out of hand and I am becoming more depressed seeing my family suffer on a daily basis.

“I am the first son and first child, I can’t bear to watch my siblings and poor mother suffer anguish like this.

“From the blue paper, money is N13 million.

“Following the sad death of my father, I commenced processing the paperwork for payment of his benefits, completed it in 2017 and received official approval in January 2018.

“After waiting for another year and no payment was made to my family by the Government.

“I approached the Accountant General of the State about the matter but he told me that no payment was being considered and that there is a backlog of pending payments stretching back to 2014, all awaiting the Governor’s approval.

“Following this disclosure, I attempted several times to bring the Governor’s attention to the issue but all messages to that effect were unanswered.

“My family has been facing hard times since the death of our father who was the breadwinner.

“My two immediate younger sisters at different levels of study in the University are on the verge of dropping out while the third who passed WAEC and JAMB exams this year faces an uncertain future due to our financial incapacitation.

“I make this public appeal to Governor Benedict Ayade to kindly let my family have the chance to lead a decent life by giving the authorization for us to be paid.

“I will be here with my placard every day, come rain or shine until the approval is given or else I will take the easy way out, cause I can stand this pain and shame for too long.”

Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Ayade, Mr. Christian Ita, said they were paying in batches, explaining the present administration inherited a backlog of gratuity from 2013.

“We have cleared 2013 and we are paying in batches. We inherited gratuity and we are clearing them as soon as possible.

“It’s a function of money, everyone affected will be paid. We are currently paying 2014, we will get to everyone because we are offsetting the backlog in batches,” he said.

A self-acclaimed evangelist, Mr Akinjide Durojaiye, was on Thursday beaten to a pulp for allegedly stealing two new Tecno mobile phones from a shop within the Femi Johnson Building in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The 49-year-old man, who claimed to be an evangelist at the Dominion Assembly, Ilare-Ijesa in Osun State, said he was in the shop, where mobile phones and accessories were being sold, to preach the gospel to all the people he found there.

Durojaiye claimed that he came from Ilare-Ijesa to Ibadan on an evangelization mission, adding that the ‘spirit’ directed him to the shop to preach to the attendants and others.

He was said to have been apprehended by the attendants and other onlookers while trying to escape with the two phones valued at N70,000.

One of the shop attendants, who gave his name simply as Tunde, said he did not notice when the evangelist pilfered the phones, which were on display, saying he and the others were already carried away by his preaching.

While being chased by the attendants and neighbours, Durojaiye was said to have hidden in a store within the complex but was located by an attendant in another shop after which he was brought out and beaten, while the phones were recovered from him.

The self-acclaimed evangelist, who clutched a copy of the Holy Bible to his chest, attributed the incident to the work of the devil, adding that his attempt to get money to treat his seven-year-old son, who is on admission in a hospital in Osun State, pushed him into committing the crime.

Durojaiye, a father of four, said the son, whose name he gave as Oluwadurosinmi, jumped down from a two-storey building in Ilare-Ijesa and was hospitalized because of the injuries he sustained.

He also claimed that his wife had divorced him and left him to take care of the children alone.

The man was later released due to the intervention of some persons in the neighborhood, who had thronged the scene of the incident.
