Veteran comedian, Moses Adejumo, popularly known as Baba Sala, is dead, The PUNCH is reporting.
According to the newspaper, Adejumo, who hails from Ilesa in Osun State, died on Sunday night at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex Annex (Wesley Guild Hospital) in Ilesa.
His Media Assistant, Isaac Haastrup, confirmed the development to The PUNCH in a telephone interview.
Hastrup said: “Baba has died.
“He died some minutes to 10pm on Sunday night.
“His remains had been taken to the morgue.
“He died of old-age related sickness.
“He came to church two Sundays ago and he was the one that said the benediction.
“Baba has gone to be with the Lord and he will be missed by many people, including his fans.”
BON Commiserates With Baba Sala’s Family, Names Comedy Award Category After Him
Following last week’s death of iconic Nigerian comedian, dramatist and filmmaker, Moses Adejumo, popularly known as Baba Sala, the Best Of Nollywood Awards, BON has renamed its comedy category after the late legend.
A statement by the Head of the Best of Nollywood Jury, Niran Adedokun explained that the award will “henceforth be known as the Moses Adejumo Comedy of the Year Award in recognizing the contributions that the late veteran artiste made to the development of comedy in Nigeria.
Adedokun , who noted that Bala Sala was a total performer whose early investments in the alongside many of his contemporaries laid the foundation for the increasingly growing entertainment industry.
“Being Nigeria’s leading homegrown and home focused movie awards, the Best of Nollywood Awards honours the memory of this great man and have decided to name our comedy awards after him. It is the least that we can do as a Nigerian award even though we understand that he deserves much more and hope that our government will consider immortalizing him in some way, the statement offered.
He expressed the condolences of the organisers of the award to the Adejumo family urging them to take solace in the enviable legacy of the late filmmaker who started his career in show business as a highlife musician in 1964 with a group known as the Federal Rhythm Dandies and was noted to have tutored and guided the Juju maestro, King Sunny Ade, who was his lead guitarist at the time.
BON Awards 2018 Gets Date, Announces October 29 for Host State, Nominees Unveiling
Best of Nollywood, BON Awards, the highly coveted award platform in Nollywood, has announced December 9, as the date for the 2018 edition of the ceremony, which also doubles as the celebration of a decade of the award ceremony, a press statement has revealed.
The statement was made public on Friday, September 28, and signed by the Chief Executive of BON, Seun Oloketuyi.
He revealed that the host state and unveiling of the 2018 nominees will be announced October, 29. Oloketuyi also assured that this years edition which is also the tenth year anniversary of the award will be the mother of all in Nollywood.
BON Awards is an annual film event presented by Best of Nollywood Magazine to honour outstanding achievements in the Nigerian Movie Industry.

Ace Comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st, popularly known as the Grand Comedian of Nigeria, has just successfully concluded his hit comedy concert: “Laffmattazz with Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st and friends,” the second edition in the city of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The event, which was packaged by Laughter Incorporated is a Gbenga Adeyinka initiative, sponsored by Maltina, supported by the Ogun State Government, First Bank of Nigeria and Federal Inland Revenue Service was held at the Marquee Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta, a 3,000 seater hall in Abeokuta Ogun State.
The people of the city of Egba were awed by performances of superstar musicians and comedians and it was successfully shut down as usual.
The event was filled with lots of comedy and music, with Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st and his friends: CDQ, Omobaba, Slimcase,Helen Paul, Faze, Peteru, Joel Amadi, Still Ringing, Dr Smile, Destiny Boy, Odogwu and lots more.
The event was graced by The First Lady of Ogun State, Olufunsho Amosun; Top commissioners which include; Commissioner for Youth and Sport Afolabi Afuape, Commissioner for Environment Bolaji Oyeleye, Wife of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Mrs Oladipo, Commissioner for Information and Strategy Chief Dayo Adeneye, the Managing Director of Ogun State Property Investment Company Jide Odusolu, top management staff of Nigerian Breweries Plc, senior brand managers, Celebrities like Bolaji Amusan (Mr Latin), Popular socialite IBD Dende, upwardly mobile businessmen, representatives of FIRS, First Bank, and many other dignitaries.
Tables, VVIP, VIP and Regular tickets were all sold out and it was a glorious show.
The 2018 edition of Laffmattazz Abeokuta, remains the talk of the town.
